Hey my 96 ford escort was totalled last week and I have to get it out from the body shop to because the fees are adding up. Im using my jeep along with a uhaul car dolly to tow it. Is there anything I should expect to happen that I might not know about or I should not do while towing my car? My cherokee seems pretty sold and hasn't given me any trouble towing a utility trailer recently but my car is a lot heavier. I know the basic stuff leave extra space for braking, don't accel to fast and just take my time. This is my first time towing a car so any info would be great!

I tow cars around with mine that are a lot bigger than an escort and it does fine. Just two weeks ago the fuel pump on my dads 3/4 ton dodge went out we put it on our 18 foot flatbed trailer and I pulled it thirty miles home fifty five the whole way

Thanks! This is reassuring for me. I guess I just need to strap it down good and hope I dont loose piece of my car going down the road. Ill keep it at or under 55mph. Should I put it in the gear 3 instead of D to keep it out of overdrive? Its mostly going to be highway travel for probably 30 or 40 miles.

I keep mine in 3 instead of D while towing. Your trans will appreciate it.

AW4's are heat sensitive, keep it in third to help keep the heat down.

If you are using a tow dolly that looks like this, it will be very similar to "flat towing". Plan your moves in advance, since backing up will not be a good option. Also be sure the towed vehicle at least has it's hazard lights on.

Yea I believe that will be the type of dolly I am using. But the hazard lights are going to be a little bit of and issue. Here is a pic of my car. Im just going to take it nice and easy in the right lane to get it back home, after I pull off some of the loose pieces.

Yea it does suck, to top it off I was doing 65mph when the person hit me. sent me spinning across the highway.

Do the back tires still turn because the front have to go on the dolly and the back free spin.

yea they can turn freely so that shouldn't be an issue.
