This is the fith vehicle that has burned on the beach this season. Folks refuse to air down, and they run the AC. It is usually the tranny that pukes, then the fluid ignites. In my opinion, a fire extinguisher would have no chance in this situation.

Interesting. Maybe they should post ups signs and try to enlighten them.Originally Posted by SteveMongr

Your right, a small ABC extinguisher is useless at that point. It's good for a small situation but with too much fluid igniting at once, it's overwhelming.
Apparently they cannot read either. There are signs at every access and driving tips in all the local publications.

I guess I got super lucky when I went to the beach. I didn't air down my tires and I guess lucky for me my ac didn't work. Had 3 adults and 2 kids in xj. Now that I know this can happen I will be doing some upgrades before my next trip.
At the time I had 4 non matching tires of all different sizes, due to the po, and sagging leafs.
I drove pretty carefully in 4lo as I didn't want to damage transmission since it felt like I was driving on waves. It was one of the first times I took it offroad so I'm going to say that loss was due to an id-10-t error.

In the soft stuff I also use 4LO. Temps quickly drop in the tranny when doing so, from 170 to 140 F. It makes the engine and tranny happy. My rig favors 4Lo due to stock 3.55 gears and 31" tires.Originally Posted by crabmushrooms5

Good information to know. Also like to add the fact that my transfer case was empty (both seals and all gaskets).Originally Posted by SteveMongr

My son's work is sending him to Florida for 6yrs so his girlfriend is getting them a Jeep so they can cruise the beaches. Gotta show him this.

We go to OBX every other year. Started in Buxton and have moved to the 4x4 beach, Carolla. You would be amazed at what vehicles people take on the beach and how they drive them. Trust me those signs mean nothing to them.
