Just wondering how many other people have torn Leather on their steering wheels and how they fixed it... Or If they leave it and call it character
It's torn up on the top, so I put a steering wheel cover on it. It wouldn't have bothered me, but the material underneath the torn leather smelled like play-dough....

When I first got my XJ, the steering wheel had some tearing on the top like most do. The previous owner had a cover on it, but I seriously can't stand them so I took it off and call mine character ;-). Besides the initial stickyness, it doesn't bother me at all. Of course I don't have as much damage as most.

mine was torn when I bought it, so I just recovered it with leather ( I work at a custom leather shop)
used some light weight (3 ounce) cow hide and a baseball stitch and gave her a brand new cover
