Default Torching seized bolt

I have a seized bolt/nut that mounts my front bumper to the bumper mount. I rounded out the bolt so I decided to torch it to see if that will help to loosen it. I have never done this before so I wanted to know how to do it. Do I heat it and try to free it while it's hot, or let it cool first? Or should I heat and cool repeatedly before I try to free it? Also, the bumper and mount will be off the jeep during this. Thanks.

Heat the nut, not the bolt. Heating the bolt will cause it to expand, not what you want.

Ok, so just the nut, then let it cool before I try to free it?

No, heat that muttha up and then turn the bolt.

Allowing it to cool off lets the material contract....sort of defeats the purpose of heating it up in the first place.

This is a perfect example of what this forum is about! Props to FrankZ for good advice not sarcasm, and then following up to see if his advice worked. People caring about people. Keep Jeepin'!

I hear that, I love this forum. I'm about to throw on some TJ flares, a new exhaust kit, and an engine skid all on my own. Six months ago when I first bought this Jeep, I never would have had the ***** to do it on my own. But thanks to this site my jeep has only ever been in a garage once.
