I've had mine up to 85 or so bustin a move around multiple 18 wheelers on 2 lane black tops. She handled it fine and felt like she had plenty more to go. Have no desire to go faster than that but it's nice to know I can.

This is stupid. Asking how fast will a Jeep go is about as cool as the dorks I get at the gas station who ask me how fast my bike will go.

It goes fast enough for me to drag the hard parts in corners. How much more do you need? Any dipstick can open something up going straight.

My lifted brick on wheels probably hasn't been over 75. Although my TL, that's a different story. Even still i've only had it up around 100. We don't have anywhere around here that's safe to take it above that.

Thank YOU! I have posted this up on 3 forums, Cherokeeforum, ComancheClub, And naxja. Most of what Ive got was "dont go that fast its not safe" and " your building a off road rig not a street rig". I did the 112 on an open part of the highway where there were no cars and I had no one else in the truck so it was just me to hurt. The 96 I was passing a convoy of trucks again on an open highway. I just thought it would be kinda fun to see what some of these old gems can do.

I read later that british cherokees (of that year) are electronically limited to 112mph for safety reasons?.(makes sense doesnt it..112mph is ok, but 120mph is just tooo dangerous!). The diesel pulled hard up to about 80, then started to run out of puff.. it made it up to 97 ish, but by that point my ears were starting to bleed so I backed off. I dont run my jeeps hard very often, and I dont do it on public roads, but its good to know what theyre capable of. No mods, just well serviced.. the 4.0 has a cone air filter, but thats not going to make much difference.
British speedos on my 1993 4.0L, and the 1998 2.5L TDsorry about the quality)
Thats so cool Wish I could get a 120mph speedo

Never wanted to run my heep flat out, lol, too scared too . but.......Before I scrapped my old cherokee, I removed the front driveshaft, went out on a backroad and found out how fast it would go in "2LO" . 3 gears of tire smoke , and OD topped out at about 65mph (oh, that was with 31's). It would have made a fun 1/8 miler, hahaha (if it would hook).

I've buried my speedo needle past the 100mph mark, but who knows how accurate the speedometer is after 85.

Chrysler 8.25 with 3.07 gearing.
