TIRES!! whats good? for what?
So.. I suck at picking tires, and the first thing mine needs after I get her running is a new set of shoes.. so I thought might as well start a tread style thread.. Not so much a size just what tread works well for what you use it for. my 2c, BFG AT's pretty good in the sand and rocks, but absolutely horrid in the mud.. Dunlop mud rovers.. good all around tire, but really soft sidewall's and I had to replace 2 due to cuts.... so who likes what? and for what?

Cooper AT3 for everyday + some offroad.
I thought they were great in snow.
Fine on gravel etc.
Climbs loose dirt hills pretty well
got stuck in mud to the rocker panels and dug out (fwd/reverse/fwd/reverse...) with open diffs
not too loud
haven't hydroplaned yet in some pretty deep flash storm flooding
cheaper than BFG ATs
previous tires on the same rig were an old *** set of those costco Michelin semi-offroad *looking* tires they sold up to about 5-6 years ago...

the Nitto Grappler's on my dmax suck real bad on wet pavement but have proven okay offroad, and supposedly are okay in snow so I'm hopeful it'll snow a little out here to see..
my jeep is slamming some Kumho AT's (came with the jeep) funny I just realized how they're pronounce after looking at them for over a year, another thing I just looked at on the net they're made in Fontana, ca... my old stomping grounds...
what a trip....
while the Kumho's aren't so aggressive they handle decent all around and better than the Nitto's on wet pavement.. And seem to wear really well I've been trying to use them up so when I upgrade wheels/tires but these things take a beating !!!! I may just have to keep them...
im considering the cooper/ goodyear duratracs/and KM2's .... depends where my budget is when the time comes
EDIT: man now I'm searching tires, anyone try the Kumho Road Venture M/T's ?? or have luck with Kumho altogether?? seem to holding up well for me I may have to give them another go

I've my had KM2s for a little over a year and have done some serious pavement pounding with them. Still have ~15/32" tread left and they've done just fine what little snow/ice/rain they've seen.
They howl a bit right around 45 and if you're creeping along real slow you can feel the lugs but I dig it.
Can't complain so far!

General grabber at2's. This is my 2nd set of these. Awesome in all situations, especially snow, not so good in mud however. They clog up quite a bit. Quiet on the road. Much better investment than the bfg mt's I had before these.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned duratracs, those are usually the first thing posted. I've heard they're great in all conditions except sand but air it down and they should be fine. I'm replacing my bf t/as with them soon
X2 on the Duratrac. It's likely they'll be my next set of tires, either them, the MTR, or the new Kenda Klever MT. The Duratracs on my buddy's TJ have been on there since he got the Jeep, 3 years ago, and they have 67% tread, so they last forever. They also seem to do excellent offroad

I have the Kumho M/T's on mine for almost 2 years now. They are great in rocks and sand but noisy on the road as they wear. They feel best on the road at about 35psi to me,at 40psi they ride rough. On wet asphalt I've had the rear break loose when turning if I give it to much throttle. When these wear I plan on another set of them. I'm running 31's.

I paid about $675 for my stock size 235/15/70s....4 tires, plus the $15 or $20 or whatever lifetime road hazard whatever certificate thing. Although-- I did say 'nahhhhhh' and then the guy gave me 1/2 price on it. This was at America's Tire.
And-- on my other car, I was lazy about rotating one time, and one day looked and said sh-- the front tires are dust. But since I had the certificates, i got $60 off a new set (amercias tire) Even though the front tires were really the only ones that were dust, they gave me the prorated mileage guarantee refund on all four tires...
