Default Tire Pressure Q... Sorry!

Hey guys, just a quick question. I've got BFGoodrich All Terrains on my stock Jeep Cherokee, just wondering what tire pressure should be? The sidewall says 50! But the garage only put 37 in.

Yea, what's on the sidewall is "MAX" pressure, so you don't want them right at MAX, they wont wear properly. I'd say around 40psi is good, it also has a reccomended tire pressure on the side of the driver's door (at least my '89 does) for a couple different tire sizes like 215's and 235's. Hope that helped.

p.s.
Congrats on the new shoes! I have some BFG A/T's coming in the mail soon, I can't wait to slap 'em on!

Hey thanks for the reply man. So would that be 40 cold? It's about 40 degrees here haha. And thanks! Just got them yesterday, loving them already. I had Goodyear Tracker II's for a year and they only had 2/16 of tread left before I got these bad boys. I'm loving that I can almost fit the entire penny in the tread - I guess I pass the test, haha

Btw, love your XJ - I've always loved the stock look

Thanks man! Yea, everyone tells me to lift it but I just love the stock look + there's no where to off-road where I live anyway... 40 should be fine cold, the pressure increases as the tires heat up, so if you pump 'em up too much they will wear badly and no one wants that on their brand-new BFG A/T's!

I run mine at 35psi cold, nice even tire wear. 40psi may cause the center of the tire to wear faster.

I agree man! Everyone around here asks me why I don't lift mine. I personally don't like the look of lifted Cherokees too much - anything above 2" just looks a bit excessive to me. Plus, I am trying to get the gas mileage I can and putting a lift wouldn't help me there much (I'm an environmental protection advocate if you can imagine that ) Also, I don't have the money for a lift But don't want one anyway! But the main thing that keeps me from getting a lift is that I don't think I need one - my STOCK Cherokee gets me everywhere I want to go, never gotten stuck once, so I don't see why I'd need one.

Thanks for the advice. I think they're at 37 right now, I'm going to leave them there and see what happens.

I tend to let my tires down lower then most do, all for a better ride and too, better traction. Never have problems with my tires wearing funny. Like my daily driver(S10), has 215/70/15's on the front and 235/70/15's on the back, front has 32 lbs, and back around 28 lbs. The bigger the tire, the less air it needs. My Nissan has 33" buckshots on it and i run 15 lbs of air in them, woods and street and they are wore even.
