Just my .002.
I dunno if i like the look of them that dark. It might look better to buy the clear set of lenses and possibly clear tail lights off ebay for about 30 bucks and just lightly smoking those, instead of having to put it on thick to cover up the yellow/red etc colored plastic.
I think im going to go this route.

I also used VHT on my lights but mine is a '94. You did a great job with your lights and i'd like to give my .02. I think your lights would look great if you did a VERY LIGHT coat over the reverse lights. The reverse lights on your Jeep are more white than clear and they stand out a lot; I think they would look more complete with a light coating over them. I don't think you would lose much light from a very light coat either. You did a very good job with them though. Just my .02 =)

I looked at this stuff today. $12.99 a can at Advance. Can clearly labeled "For offroad use only"
In other news I also saw Krylon "hammered" paint at Walmart.
They had a gunmetal & a Black version. Really want to paint my stock 98 rims with the black.
If the Nightshades isn't illegal in S.C., it would make my truck almost completely black.

Lots of things say "for offroad" use only but that doesn't mean it's illegal nor does it mean it is legal. My fog lights say for offroad use only too but they are perfectly legal. I haven't gotten any tickets or warnings for my lights yet. I go to local car meets every Thursday if I'm not working. With 400+ people in stock to highly modified cars in one small area, police patrol is both necessary and plentiful. Most of these cops are pretty cool guys who enjoy looking at the cars, trucks, and motorcycles and have absolutely no problem inspecting them to tell you what is legal or illegal if you ask them too. In fact, they actually prefer that you ask them, so they don't have to cite you for it later on. I have had the jeep inspected by these officers a couple times. I was warned about my tires sticking out too far, my exhaust not ending behind the rear passenger door where it should, not having emissions control devices (o2 sensors and cat), the led light in my dashboard under the glovebox in the little shelf thing being distracting, the light being emitted from my headunit as being distracting, the cord for my cb radio mic hanging in front of my rear view mirror, the small fox sticker on the glass in front of my high mount brake light, for projecting a flame out of the tailpipe over exceeding inches in length, and that my exhaust would break noise ordinance codes in certain cities and towns above roughly 2500rpm. The officers told me my lights are dark, but within legal limits. Honestly, the best way to find out if something is legal or not is to ask the guys that are gonna write you a ticket if its not. I wouldn't recommend flashing your highbeams at a cop next time you see one on the road until he pulls over, but your local municiple building or police department should be able to help you out just the same. Laws vary by state and municipality, so check in locally and with places you visit often outside of your municipality.
**In Michigan, the law reads that all lights must be visible at 500' under normal atmospheric conditions; so tinting the tail lights is illegal in Michigan because the lights are no longer visible at 500'. MI law also reads that marker lights must be visible from all distances of 500' to 50' from the vehicle under normal atmospheric conditions - unfortunatley, I could not do that to my Jeep in MI. I'm not sure about other states, as I've only lived in MI.
I would advise checking with your local police officer or looking up your state's motor vehicle code before doing this. It does look really good.
**Michigan Legislature PA 300 of 1949 Section 257 Subsection(s) 686, 691.

I have no issues with mine. They look darker in the pics than they actually are. During the day, you can still see a little red and yellow on 'em. I just did my state inspection (Virginia is one of the stricter states on vehicles) and passed without any issues.

Even if you just drive to your local police department and ask them to take a look at it for you for legality, it will save you in the long run. Plus, the officer could conceivably pull you over in the future for something unrelated and remember you showing effort to stay within legal limits. Something to think about.
