Default thoughts on shock options

I am about to take the plunge and do a 3" lift. I wanted to use jk rubi shocks, unfortunately, I cannot find any available locally. So, I was looking in to rock auto under jk suspension. Even though they are not factory jk shocks, they should still do the job right?

No.
Buy a shock that's built for your rig.

Shocks are valved by the weight of the vehicle and travel,Even if they bolt on a jk is a lot heavier then a xj and probably has less travel.Short answer buy shocks that fit and are made for your xj.

My metal cloak 3.5" kit has OME shocks, they have a great ride quality:

Being its a DD and no off road use any good shock will work as long as its the proper fit. For a good ride try a Bilstein 5100 series they will last a long time and have very good fit for a 2wd.

I got a 3 inch lift. I never off road. It's my daily. I picked up a set of jk rubicon shocks for $40 on Craigslist. They ride smooth and great. They only had 5k miles on them. I'm not sure how they would perform off roading

Haha... This baller is on a huge budget. I have recently become unemployed. Bilstien or OME are way out of my price range. I was trying to keep the lift around $400. I thought JK shocks were a good improvement over the XJ shocks , when going to a 3" lift? That's why I was wondering if what rockauto carried for JKs was still a good replacement.

? Problem with recently unemployed is you now have the time part of the equation, but what about the $?
Monroe can shock you for cheap. Will be more than adequate. Watch for sales.
I run a load assist set (Monroe sensitrack with coil overs) in the back, helps the leafs and controls the tail very very well on washboard surfaces.
Watch your budget, good luck Gauge.

Thanks... Yeah, I do get a severence package and I'm trying to manage it (the budget) and get things done (to the jeep)while I can. . I did consider those Monroe load adjust shocks... I'm still on the fence. Just don't hear/see much about them.

Default Load Adjust

I swear by them, not at them.
Got 160000Km on last set, then did the standard sensi trac, then did the load assist again. They will pick up the tail a solid 1/2" and do control very well.
Raised the lower mount by cut off and rewelding the stub section upward to axle level. Lowered the top mount with 1" spacers. Used the standard lenght shock with 3.5" lift. Yes I use blocks, axle wrap be dammned, and my blocks won't fall out. Cheap way to lift but axle wrap will be a factor. Will be adding another leaf to spring set this winter.
As for the shocks, they work.
Monroe packes em two in a box, so you only need to order quantity 1, the parts counter guy will debate with you. You can't buy them individually, only as a set.
$200 to $230 cdn two years ago. Probably more today, our dollar is weak.
USA prices will be better.
