Thinking of opening up land to ride on..
Sooo just saw the thread about GWNP going to be closed down and was talking to my buddy earlier about getting the loader back to his property (160 acres) and opening the trails back up, He is down with this big time.
We would need some help cutting the trail back open and were thanking of making a club of whoever and whatever vechicles. He has a Bronco that he is finishing up with a 9 inch lift and 35's another guy with a 4" lift in a Wrangler. So it's not just a XJ thing, would anybody be willing to help open the trails with us??????? What kind of waiver would you have people sign so that we would not be responsible?? Any other things we need to be aware of??:surrender: |
That would be awesome. One thing to think of from what i have seen "outsiders" have a problem with would be creeks and streams if there are any because people downstream could be ticked and could possibly have a legit complaint to take to court. Also the local noise levels incase there are small towns near by. Hope everything works out and good luck!!
how close is culpeper to roanoke va? cause maybe by the time the trails are done ill have a jeep built ahahah
It's off the grid of small towns so that will not be a problem. There is a stream that is part of the trail that is open now. The place was logged a couple of years ago and the under brush is mostly briars that we have to open back up to get to the original trails. We used to have about 8 to 10 miles of trails but plan on making more. Roanoke is about a hour from Culp. but the land is 20 mins from Culp. so about 1hr 20 min.
count me in. date and time.
Though about doing this a few years back with some family land but insurance was outragous. Get a lawyer to draw up a waiver but keep in mind if they are under 18 it's not binding, have to have a parent sign.
Sounds like a great idea to me! And put my name on the list for willing to help  Any place to wheel close to c-pep has my full support lol. If you pick the right date for trail work I could possibly round up a few other guys to come out too.
Sweet we are planning on getting the under brush taken care of while it's still dead from the cold weather. I will get a date and directions and PM ppl. It doesn't matter how many ppl come because we are getting it done either way but it would be nice to have some help.

You need it just as any business needs it. No wavier is bulletproof and someone will eventually sue you (gotta love those jerks). That way you're covered and don't loose the land as well as your house, cars etc.

Hmm... where outside of Culpeper are you? I myself am in Edinburg, and I might possibly be able to assist. Now don't quote me, but I will do my best to see if I can get in there with you guys and help.
And in all honesty, I don't think any insurance would be needed. As long as you make it clear that everyone is driving at their own risk, and maybe have a waiver typed up, then all should be fine.
i wanna help, count me in for sure! lmk
Let me know when you're doing it. If I can help I'm in.
It will prob be next month sometime. Got to get the backhoe running and take some stuff to the scrap yard to get some extra $ for the hydraulic lines. I will post up later once we get a real date, this will help out a lot.
You'll also want to check with the local AHJ (authority having jurisdiction) because they may have a problem with what you do on YOUR land because it affects other peoples land. Unfortunately it's not as easy as wanting to open an OHV and just doing it. Like I said just because you have a waiver doesn't mean you can't be sued. Whatever you do don't make it a LLC or else they can sue you personally and not just the park.

My advice, woube be to create a club and make it so members have to be aproved by you, your friend, and other members. This way you are ensured have serious people interested. It will also give you a good reputation with the community. Also have a liability wavier, just for added insurance for members. Since it would be your club and property you could control who does what, when, and how. Maybe make a small club fee so you can open a website and keep it running to monitor members better and spread the word some.
Since I am an hr away I would love to help but do to being a college student and working as much as possbile time is very limited. Hope you can pull it off. Plz PM me if you ever have a big work weekend, if I am avaliable I would come. |

In my opinion, not that I know too much about it, but I think you'd be ok with just having people do waivers. I know insurance for that type of stuff can be suuuper expensive.
I do think it would be advisable to not make the whole thing too public. If you turn it into a business you'll most likely have to worry about stuff, but if it's just a word-of-mouth/ help-out-to-come-out kind of thing you should be ok with minimal legal bs. |

Thanks, We thought about the whole club thing, instead of a fee I think it would do better just to have ppl help cut trails and help with keeping the place clean.

Hey, i'm a friend of Potter's. I'd be down to help cut some trails and stuff. BTW you could always put a gate with a lock and only give the combo to certain people ie. members of the club....
dude you know im in, ill help in any way possible lol

I would atleast try to keep the # of people down that you let go there. But your idea is very good, best way to get the trails made. Too much publicity can get people sniffing for issues.

Thats what I am thinking. We are not trying to make a business out of this, we figure it would give others a place to come and have some fun and help us out with the making of the trails and such.

yeah i think starting a club of some sort wouldnt be a bad idea, we need something around here better than nova jeepers lol, and the gate idea is definitely a good one, that way you dont have to worry about all the bs lol, just make it like you said, a fun place to go for the local guys, we're running out of places to go around here, if and when gwnf closes, we're screwed unless we have something else
