They won't, too many folks want a car like ride, a solid axle rugged vehicle can not offer that. I call it the pussifacation of America.

If I have anything to do bout they d*** sure will!!! I'm goin for a long shot but I've got some things in mind that I wanna put in the workings that may eventually boil down to them actually doing it.... can't really give a date but hopefully sometime in the next 10 years or so..... I've been thinking bout this for the past 6 months now and as long as I can get the help of EVERY xj owner on here and possibly everywhere, then we may achieve this awesome feat!!!!! But what I got in mind is going to take the help of all YOU xj owners in the long run!!!

Building an XJ like we have they can't.
> As said above, too many in the USA want a smooth ride. Years ago a Jeep rep was at our club meeting. He stated that 80% of the Wranglers never went off-road.
> I know of one case where a guy actually brought his Wrangler back and asked what the second shifter was for.
> the 4.0 engine cannot meet current smog requirements. Are there still any inline 6's being sold?
> The XJ cannot meet current safety requirements. This might also kill off the Wrangler in a few years.
>Would anybody really want that monstrosety being built in China?
After the JK leaves your only option will be to build a 4 wheeler with dual solid axles. I know, some 3/4 ton trucks have solid axles, but those trucks are way too big to be trail rigs.

What's been said is true - sadly - more people want the cushy, car-like ride than versatility. That one fact keeps the possibility of a XJ like ours from happening. Fiat's CEO though, has emphatically stated that the entire Jeep line is going to be going "back to it's roots" as capable, off road vehicles. Everything he'd said happen with Fiat has happened so here's hoping the trend continues with Chrysler/Jeep. Could it have an inline 6 that meets emissions? Absolutely. BMW still uses an i6 in their some of their cars, GM and Volvo use an i5 in some of theirs, so an inline engine can still be done.
It's not a true XJ Cherokee anymore. The last 2500 that rode on the XJ platform was made in 2005. The only thing that makes the current one similar to what we have is the body style. It's now the Baw Quishi S12. Baw Quishi bought the body stamps from Chrysler in 2007. The interior, engine, drivetrain - they're all different now, so please, stop saying the XJ is still being produced. It's not, and to call the S12 an XJ is pretty much equal to blasphemy.
