Default T case fitment

Will the tcase out of my Jeep XJ fit in a 1996 v8 5speed dodge dakota? I noticed it a np231 in both of them but not sure what variations they made of this tcase. Can someone help me out here please. Im looking at buying the truck but it needs a tcase for 4wd to work.

Pretty sure it's a different spline count.

This is one of those times where google is your friend. A quick search will tell you the 96 Dakota came with a NP231D which has a 23 spline input, same as your XJ. These cases came with 3 different length inputs though and I didn't look deep enough to find that. Not sure if the bolt pattern or clocking is the same either. Like a 231J out of a TJ and a 231J out of an XJ are not the same. Both will bolt up but the TJ version is clocked higher.

First thing I found told spline count. Pics show it's a 6 bolt round pattern like pretty much all 231s but like I said I didn't find any info on the size of the pattern, clocking angle and length of the input. But I didn't look into it that hard. Just typed in "what is the spline count on a 1996 dodge dakota transfer case". Tons of things came up.
