*****It's a scam*****
I'm starting this thread because I'm hopefully going to be checking out a new Cherokee tomorrow and it seems a little suspicious. I've bought and sold my fair share of cars in the past, but I'm looking for some of the specific things that some year/model cherokees might have wrong with them to cause someone to dump it off for cheap? This is all of the information that I know about the jeep. It's a 2000 Cherokee Limited with 42k on the clock. It has an auto report that shows it's never been in an accident, 100% clean title and it has just about every option you can get (heated leather seats, 16" wheels, heated mirrors, etc) and it's $2500. Unless they forgot a 0 I cant figure out anything that would make this vehicle worth that little? It looks good in the one picture it has, it's showing a clean title, and he said that the mileage will increase because it's his daily driver! If it can be driven it's worth at least twice that much.... what do you guys think?
Are there any issues with the auto transmission in these? I have a 5 speed in mind and I hate to get rid of it, but this is just too good to pass up. I will definitely check for a blown head gasket, head casting 331, sludgy oil on dipstick, crusty oil cap, and overheating am I missing anything? I'll run it in 4wd just to make sure it engages, listen for any noise in the differentials and U joints, listed to the normal idle, and check for obscene amounts of rust under it. Anything else you would recommend checking? My 95 has 181k on it and if this truck has twice as much wrong with it as mine does it's still worth it! I'll post up again when I check it out.

A couple of items;
The 2000 will be a low pinion front end. Not that big of a deal, but...
The 2000 will have the crack prone 0331 cylinder head. This may be a definite issue of why the owner is 'dumping' this Jeep for cheap. For the year/mileage, you could get a replacement head, change it out, and still have a decent DD for a reasonable price.
Do a careful check of all the options. Make sure everything works (options, transmission, and T/C) and the interior is decent. If everything else checks out, negotiate a deal with him.

Damn! It looks like it could be legit, but I still get a weird feeling. Why so cheap? Does this guy not know what he has?

All I can say is that I wouldn't want one with all that electrical crap on it.
You are correct, though. Even according to NADA (which usually has low-ish values) that is strangely priced.

It is 100% scam... It's strange to use that town? It's a tiny little nothing town about 30 minutes from me. You would think they would use a bigger city. He even emailed me back and I'm sure I was emailing a person but he would call me or give me his cell number. Then he started with the whole "Oh I just moved to california and will ship you the car" and crap like that. I thought I had the holy grail, an old man from New York that never drove it and has no idea what it's worth LOL. Better luck next time I guess

The vehicle report has a history of two New York cities, but the selling location is some podunk town in Illinois, but the seller is in California? Very fishy.
