Default Sunroof Question

So since I bought my XJ last month, the sunroof has leaked whenever it rained and I noticed it was caulked shut. So today i decided to remove the horrible over done caulking job and re do it myself. Except now as daylight runs out, the sunroof won't shut.

anyone ever experience this? I believe it's an after market. i really would prefer for it to work. It worked enough to open up and when I goto klose it, it just makes a clicking sound and stays open a crack and looks off track.

Sunroofs are a controlled water leak, there are drain tubes at each corner. The tubes get full of dirt and crap over the years and stop draining, then you have water sitting in the sunroof pan and it will over flow and soak the headliner, seats, floor and anything else. Chances are the drive mechanism is broken because of age and baking in the sun for almost 15 years. There should be adjustment screws at each side of the glass. Loosen the screws enough to be able to move the glass and then see if the roof will shut. If it does manage to close all the way, adjust the glass to where it fits the opening flush and then tighten the screws. But before you do all of that, you should clean out the drains by running a wire down the tubes to knock the crap loose. Google "aftermarket sunroof installers" for you location, there should be a place that is able to either fix it for you or at least guide you in the right direction. I have an aftermarket sunroof and hate it. I adjusted it to fit the hole as best I could and then sealed it shut. No more water leaks.

You may want to invest in some duct tape to keep the rain out until you can get it fixed. Tacky and white trash? Yes, but dry white trash.
