I've been looking for my first Cherokee, done as much research as I can. After looking hard I'm gng to go see a stock 93 sport 4.0 no power Windows. Thru pics it looks in good shape, hood is starting to oxidize. Has 163k. Seller asking 2250 obo. What should I offer? I hv been having trouble finding something decent and reasonable out here in cali. Should I jump on it? Thx for your opinions!

 

You have to take everything into consideration when you see it. Does it look like its been well maintained? Is it all rusted like in the rockers or the floor boards? Does it have body damage? Test drive it and check for anything that's weird or seems like it maybe about to go out. Like if it needs brakes, u joints, or any other wear parts. Then after all that you can shoot him an offer that you feel is reasonable. Good luck, hope you get a good one soon

If you've never wheeled an XJ, or any other 4x4, I would recommend wheeling bone stock before adding any sort of lift. That will give you an idea of what your rig can do and kind of keep you from getting in over your head on the trail. You will be amazed of just how well a bone stock XJ will do off road. After you get the feel of your rig and know what kind of off roading you'll be doing the most, then you can look and taylor the lift that fills your needs. $2250 is a fair price for a rust free XJ in California, but see if he'll take 2 grand. What part of California are you in?

 

I'm in SoCal, Riverside County area. I have a 04 lifted F150 4x4 already but it's mainly for hunting trips and towing plus i'd hate to damage it off roading. So now I want a real off roading vehicle to have fun in. If and when I get a cherokee I want to lift it myself maybe 3"-4" with 31" tires. Thanks for the info!

 

pass. that's too pricey. you can find a much better one for $2250
I picked up my 93 for $1000 and had to put $500 into the engine. I'd value the jeep you're looking at about $1500 if it passes smog.

advice? dont over pay. look at a lot of jeeps. test drive them. dont buy any of them. the right one will jump out at you. be patient in your search young padawan

 

Get under it with a flashlight and look at EVERYTHING! Look in, around and under the engine, look at the hard fuel and brake lines. Check the engine oil, make sure tranny fluid isnt burnt, look in the radiator for rust, check power steering fluid. Look for any imperfections. Even if there something you can live with, you can use them to drop the price.

 

Thx all for your input. I saw it today. It drove great, no leaks, no abnormalities. NO RUST! Inside was pretty clean although it needs a new headliner and driver seat was torn. The only neg is the paint on the hood and roof are oxidized. It has a few dings. He pointed out the Cat rattles but we agreed on 1850, with him replacing the Cat and getting it smogged tomorrow.

 

Nice deal, don't let others tell you that you over paid.

You oughta get that fixed. It puts stress on your engine and one day will probably clog up and make it run like your towing 3 busses.

 

Actually am tomorrow along with a new muffler.
