So I know I'm gona get alot of crop from anyone who doesn't like subs but I was wondering if putting them in the rear hatch is a possibility trying to maximize space but I love my subs anything helps! Even hoe to wire them through the top of the hatch or whatever

 

A sub requires a sturdy enclosure, which the hatch is not. Not to mention mounting depth, weight, airspace, etc. You may get them to fit, but it would sound like booty IMO. Either find another way to make space or get a cubby enclosure.

 

I bet it would rattle like all get out.

 

The hatch is a poor enclosure structurally. It also does not even have the necessary (usable) volume for all but the smallest, low profile subs. Assuming you were to actually isolate an appropriate volume for a chosen sub within the hatch and make it air tight, the hatch would rattle like crazy. The hatch could also need stronger pistons to hold itself up with all that added weight.

If you want to save space, have an enclosure custom made at a local shop to fit your cubby area. Or you could have an enclosure made that either replaces your spare (if your spare rides somewhere else) or a smaller one that fits inside your spare tire's wheel (tricky but possible).

 

Yeah that didn't cross myind till all 3 of you said it but my hatch already rattles like crazy because of how they are positioned now... Now this may sound just as stupid but what about the back of the seat? It's a bench so it should work... Right? Haha

 

Unless you built a sealed box in to the hatch its not gonna work to good.And the space you have you could only really run maybe 2 8 inch subs with out it rattling.

 

There is a fair amount of room under front seats. Could make a custom box with 8" woofer under one seat (or both seats if you are a teenager). Amp under rear seat.

What all do you have, or plan to have in the rear right now (cargo wise)? There are many custom built storage solutions that incorporate room for a spare, tools, parts, supplies, and a sub or two.

Subthump.com makes a great sub box that goes right in the passenger side cubby hole wheel well. Fits a 10" sub, made with 3/4" mdf and its just over a 100 shipped. I've had mine for 6 years now and it's amazing.

 

That's the biggest problem with our jeeps, no space in the trunk for subs. The best option for maximizing space is a custom made box. Even if I made a cubby box it wouldn't fit my sub. My box isn't too big now so I've just kept it how it is.

Here is a powered sub that fits under front seat. I question it's effectiveness and figure custom built would be better for under seats.

 

Under seats might be the best option here, But if your going to go with custom built i would go ahead with the cubby hole project in the rear, good for space and might have better quality of sound. good luck.

 

I am gearing up to upgrade my stereo once the weather gets nice.
I was going to make my own box, but I have never done so, don't have any wood-working tools, and am too lazy in general to do maths and measure and all that.

Subthump has a nice MDF box that fits in the cubby area with minimal modification. You could go with a shallower 10" if you want SPL (louder), or with an 8" if you want SQL optimized (sound quality).

Personally, I think I am giong to go for an Image Dynamics ID8 for sound quality, or a Sundown Audio SA-8 for max power
