Shifted on the fly from full-time to 2WD. I guess the linkage broke before it got there so it is stuck in Parttime 4WD. Sucks and it is cold outside so might be a while before I look at it.

Just reach under there and pull it into 2wd by hand until you have a chance to fix it

Hmmm... I braved the cold to check the linkage, and the linkage is all there, and doesn't seem loose.
Big trouble or what?

Start your Jeep, put your foot on the brake and shift the transmission into Drive. Then, try to move the TC shifter. If it still won't move put the tranny into Nuetral and try moving the TC shifter again. If it stillwon't move shift the tranny into Reverse and try again. One of those always works for my Jeep.

The shifter moves freely. Just that what I change it to is not changing out of 4x4 Part-Time.

Front disconnect type and with that year it's possible you have a vacuum type front disconnect and this may or may not be the issue but if you get a leak or the mechanism fails it would stay in 4wd. That's why I'm curious the yr and disco type

I got under there real fast and didn't see any vacuum lines.

So, it's stuck in parttime 4x4 and will not shift into rwd or full-time, but it will shift down into 4Lo and works.

The only thing my Haynes manual says is either the transfer case needs oil or there is internal damage.
I'll try getting the shifter adjusted before I get too worried about this. If it is internal issue, won't be able to keep the Jeep otherwise it is just going to turn into a money pit.

Adjusted the linkage and it is shifting fine. Seems like I still need to adjust the linkage, but at least it is shifting into all drives.

Thats a huge relief.
