^^^What this guy said.

But I'll be nice and reply anyway. There are several factors...What are you looking for in a motor? What's your budget? How mechanically inclined are you? Do you have the proper tools needed and knowledge/skill to custom fab items to fit a different motor?

A 4.0L will do that just fine.

Running in perfect shape, the HO has 190hp, 225ft/lb torque. This is not RWHP but straight at the engine. It is also highly unlikely that any of them are making that anymore when bone stock.

The renix 4.0 (pre91) made 173hp, 220ft/lb torque.

The 2.8 v6 and the 2.5l 4cylinders made significantly less.

depends on what you can do, if you can afford having the xj down for an undetermined amount of time go with a 5.3 vortec.

if you cant afford the down time, stroker

me: gonna run it till she blows then 5.3

Smh..

An engine is considered to be stroked when you modify the crank/rods/piston (whatever black magic it is) so that the combustion chamber is taller. It changes the displacement from 4.0, usually to 4.6l with bored out cylinders and a crank from the older 4.2l jeep motors.

Just keep your stock motor. If you really want peppy then try to find axles with lower gearing in them.

Skip the stroker....been there, done that.

5.3L or 6.0L or don't do anything.
