Default Stock MJ, bad idea?

Hi guys was curious as to whether or not this is a halfway decent deal. This guy wants 7k for this pretty much stock 88 Comanche. KBB only goes back to 92 so I searched for a 92 with the same options (which wasn't possible because this 88 is a Laredo, a trim level not present in 92) and came up with about 3500 for excellent condition. Checked the NADA guides for it and good retail was like 5500 and high retail was a little over seven. I have an open ended loan offer from my credit union (have the money just don't want to put the financial stress of spending 5k all at once on my budget) that is good up to 6500, and I want to keep sales tax considered.

Here are some pics. It's in really great shape, straight body, clean interior, camper shell, etc.

Second owner, Only 105k miles, 4.0L Engine, 4Speed Auto, center console with floor shift with Part-Time 4-Wheel Drive, 7.0' Bed, 120" wheel base, 5000lb load, straight body, great paint, rebuilt transmission, new headlights, rebuilt A/C, new Bed-Rug, new wheel molding, new shocks.

Runs and Drives Great!

Price: $6995

My plan was to offer him 5k and see what he says. I thought at first that would be lowballing him, but to be honest that's pretty much meeting him half-way between the KBB and the NADA value. It is very clean, as far as I can tell, and it's only about a 30 minute drive away, as opposed to the other MJs I've been looking at (One was 6 and a half hours away!). Wanted your guys' input on whether or not this is something even worth looking into, or if even 5k is too much for this thing. Thanks in advance!

That fact is that MJs are getting to the point they are considered collectible. (It's going to happen to XJs too, mark my word.) When an auto reaches that status you can throw KBB out the window, because people are going to pay more for an unmolested example like this. Don't be surprised if he doesn't budge off of $7k much, because I can guarantee he's getting a ton of interest in that MJ.

Whoops, nevermind guys, the sun came back up so I decided to give the guy a call.... I guess he had sold it a year ago and websites keep hijacking the ad and using it to pad their numbers lol. That sure was anticlimactic. What a shame, that was a great looking MJ and exactly what I was looking for. Love my XJ but need something with a bed.... the search continues

It's already happening. In the 5 years I've been in the XJ world the prices keep going up, up, and up...
