Question Stock Gas tank skid Modification?

Is there anyway to modify the stock gas tank skid plate somewhat easy enough. I have access to tools and can modify it however. I just dont know what direction to go towards? Any ideas

Heres what it looks like.

That's a 16 gallon tank skid. I have the same one on mine. In order to make it fit the 20 gallon tank just cut away the "up curve" on the rear part of it. If you have a hitch you won't lose any protection at all.
