I say keep it. If you haven't taken one off or put one on then you really don't know how stout this thing is. I picked up mine from the jy and its fairly heavy. The bends in are there to reinforce against buckling plus its got a piece of angle iron on the back side for added support. Lifted or not its def a good idea to protect the front end wether your 2wd, 4wd, lifted, stock height, or whatever. I'd much rather repair a piece of steel than any of the front end components.

I guess i should sell my factory skids that are taking up space in my shed lol
If your going fast enough to really mess up the front then the skid would help much anyways. and yes you can bend the stock tierod by hand and the skid wont help that either

i had mine off for a while before i lifted it because i had to take the alternator off and i just never put it back on. well i recently put it back on (my jeep now lifted) because i was having some issues with mud in my alternator so i hoped this would reduce the issue. it didnt. plus i had to trim it because it hit when ever i needed to turn. it really doesnt cover anything anyways my axle and tie rod are pretty much fully exposed still so im not gonna keep it on. it really is just a hasle.
