Default Square tubing or Round ?

I have seen both styes used for building control arms.

I noticed that one kit sold with the rear control arms with square tubing and claimed they doubled as sliders.

Is there anyone out there that has on trail experience with square control arms? What size tubing are you using?

Just thinking about it, I would believe that the square tubing weighed a bit more yet I guess it could be a little harder to bend.

I have heard that a triangle is the strongest shape guess I could always build triangle shaped arms.

Just looking for thoughts and ideas, Thanks for reading and your time to post.

if your making your own control arms im guessing you would go LA. i have seen both square and round tubing but never triangle.. i think u heard of triangulated links.. not triangle control arms. any thing could be make to "slide" if its thick enough material but i wouldnt use the control arms as sliders.

No, he said "a triangle is the strongest shape", which it is. I've seen arms made of square turned up on it's side( diamond shape) this gives smaller contact area with rocks and such. If you use 2" square 1/4 wall, you could slide on them for a while.

true triangle is the strongest shape for impacts thats why the best cages are triangles(triangulated?) but im thinking about twisting. i think it would be prone to twisting up more than a square or round tubing.

Good catch, I did say triangle was the strongest shape.

Yes I am going to build my own arms and before I do I am doing some homework. Looking at what people have done and tried, plus looking to add or modify as needed. That's why I love the forums. Found everything from people building rear shackles in a slider to give added flex and modifying a main leaf and using it as a shackle hanger to give added flex to .... well you name it! There are some very smart and talented people out there. I just don't want to be focused on one thing that I over look another.

I can agree that the triangle shaped bar would twist easily (again I was focused on shape and some one thought about strength), and Yes there is a company that actually advertises that their square arms can double as sliders. Once I find the link again I will post it.

Thanks again for all the input! Keep it coming!
