I just got some speakers for my rig the ks5250 5.1/2" kickers, I have a after market head unit, I was wondering if I hookd a amp up to it if I would get a bit more power from them. What size amp should I get? I dont kno a whole lot about speakers so any help would be great.

I would say if the speakers are rated at above 50 or 60 watts RMS an aftermarket amp would give you more sound.
I currently have 2 6.5's and 2 5.25's both rated for about 75 watts RMS. The are both being run on an aftermarket head unit (which I can promise has the same wattage) rather than a amp. They sound great at keep up with my 1500 watt sub.
Also another thing to keep in mind is running and amp for the sub and an amp for the speakers will run the risk of prematurely killing your alternator. It depends on your speaker ratings and how much power they need.

Your gonna get a ton of opinions on this one. An amp will pump up your sound, no doubt about it. 4 channel for all four can work real well, ran an old alpine system with one in my 69 camaro 25 years ago,
transferred it to my boat. Today in the XJ I run a 400W (maxed) 2 channel amp and just run my front two 5.25 door speakers. Leave the rear pair of 5.25 speaker as is from the sony head unit. I figure most of my sound is up front, the rear are fillers. Additionally I run a second sister amp 2 channel bridged to power the sub box. Lots of power, my wife hears me coming home from about a mile away.
So powering all or powering your primarys, both ways work. Do what you can afford and get moderat to top end components, good qualtity speakers are always a good investment. Don't waste money on lower end components you will eventually toss and replace. You can build your system piece by piece over time.

deff run a amp with them if you get a amp that has to much power you can turn down the watts, a maxed out amp wont sound as good as a higher powered amp at a lower settin will(clearer, not louder)

I think they are 55 rms? I got them from bestbuy cause I had a gift card and thought speakers woukd be nice, the guy should me some kenwoods, pioneers, sony, and some other brand, and he said that these kickers were the best they had for under 100$, and they cost me 85$, so if I got like a 300-400w amp it would be fine with these speakers?

WOW, what 5 channel are you running? Thats a pretty strong amp for a 5..
Im running a Genesis 5 channel, 50x4, 200x1, TRUE POWER underated. This is more of a SQ amp.
Personally, I would return those 5.25, open the stock holes up and put 6.5's. If your not running a sub the bigger woofer helps with the low end. Also dynamatting your doors is key. Also, I would spend as MUCH as you can afford on your front speakers, IT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE..

Also you want alill headroom on your amp, if speakers are rated say 50rms, look for a amp with RMS alill larger. Less stress on your amp and flexablity down the road.
