Like so many here, I have poured several thousand dollars into my XJ.
I have been stressed about the insurance situation. Upon accident, with a normal insurance policy, an insurance agent would happily write a check for $1,500 ("fair market value") for an old XJ. That would be a lot of money down the drain.
I understand that in such a scenario (after an accident), it could be possible that an owner might be able to purchase the wrecked/upgraded XJ back in an effort to get upgraded parts back.
But I found a better solution. By happen-chance I found an insurance company advertising on a FaceBook Jeep group. The agent offers "stated value" insurance. Even better, the broker offers policies for vehicles that are actually driven (unlike Hagerty that offers a policy that only allows up to 5,000 miles per year of driving, and definitely NO, ZERO, ZIP off roading).
I do not work for the insurance broker. Goosehead insurance. Check them out. (My broker is in Indiana, Ted King).
I purchased a $10,000 policy for $6XX per year. Pretty inexpensive.
I will have to cough up receipts to prove the that I spent $10K in parts. But that will not be a problem (Hi, my name is Rick, I buy Jeep parts
.)
This is a huge relief.
