How do you guys feel about the constant loss in solid front axles in today's vehicles. (there are around 3 still available with them, Ford super duty, Ram heavy duty trucks, and Jeep wrangler from what i understand.)

I love my solid axle! IFS is good for high speeds and all but my jeep aint gonna be doing high speeds i have topped the little bugger out at 105 and that was scary. im going to stick with mud and rocks.

Since almost all vehicles are designed for the highway it's a good thing. If you're truly worried about losing the ability to ever go offroading with solid axles at some point in time then just build a buggy with crate axles. Somebody will always come up with something to sell you that will fill a need.

The only ifs worth a damn to me is the ford twin beam but it needs to be beefed up to handle jumping.I was born in the 80s and remember as a kid only people that had a pickup used it as a truck,Today a pickup is a bigger car and most are more car like then truck like.Ford still makes a good truck but you gotta go f250 to get one.I'm not a dodge fan and gm died in 1988 to me.In 1988 all gm trucks went ifs and they killed off the g body.

i dont want to live in a world where a man has to pay extra for a solid axle conversion. or make his own. Jeep and all the other truck/SUV brands need a solid axle option.

What kills me some newer trucks get worse mpg then older trucks.My brothers 01 f150 4x4 stock is lucky to break 12mpg.My beater 93 f250 with a wore out 351 can break 14mpg highway if i drive like a old woman.

Yea that always cracks me up haha. Then again im never to worried over gas mileage but i should be having to drive 20 miles into work.

Frankly, no, they don't NEED that, and it's not financially smart on their part to either. Adapt.

There will be plenty of used vehicles to be had with solid axles to last untill I am dead. The wrangler is also going to be switching to IFS one of these years. Our hobby is not that large when you take into account all of America. Most people don't even change their own oil anymore. It doesn't make sense for them to keep making axles when only about 10% of the population even knows what that is and significantly less than that care.

I will not ever "adapt" and buy one unless it is strictly for on-road usage in which case, I would buy a AWD car/crossover for gas millage. I will have a solid axle Jeep untill I die for my offroading. Buying a IFS Rubicon/Trail hawk is a waste of money IMO. Worse gas millage for a vehicle that will have a very low and set celling when it comes to offroading.

That's why all of our trucks are all Ford 4x4 F-350/250 Power Strokes Crew Cabs. I stopped buying Government Motors trucks that the taxpayers lost millions on with the stock they accepted from GM on the loans that was worth nothing.


My 2004 GC is the newest Jeep I plan on owning at least it has a D30/D44 in it and all the options I'll ever need, it has them all in the "Overland" package.


No way in H@!! would I take a new Jeep Grand Cherokee or Cherokee if I had to keep and drive it, as all they amount to is another import in looks and function. Its a real shame that a old name in the car business like Dodge and Jeep is now nothing more than a glorified imported car with controlling interest and profits going overseas.

I dont like any Jeep newer than 02, unless its a Rubicon but i aint in the budget for one of those for sure. Honestly we need a new company to come into the picture (not gonna happen) but it would be nice if somebody would keep manufacturing solid axle off road vehicle's like the old jeeps with newer tech. That would be sweet.
