For everyone that keeps saying they are not even in the same class, please give some reason why you think that.
And if your going to compare it to a Caiber, PT Crusier or Neon give me something to give it relations??
The CRD KJ was a great option but you can thank the govt. for stopping production due to emission regulations.
As I am sure most people don't know when the Cherokee came out people hated it, it was a grocery getter station wagon of the time.

One of the MANY reasons it's not in the same class......
IFS
I figure the new 4 door Wranglers are closer to the new XJ.
4 doors, solid front....and a full frame. Some complain about not having a true frame...I wonder why more don't love them.

That is one difference, that still leaves it in the same class of vehicle unless your talking strictly wheeling, but most use there jeeps as DD/weekend wheelers.
But an H1 is IFS, and I am sure that is the capable stock rig available..
Not all types of off-roading benefit from a SFA..

I can definetly agree to that, I love the 2.8 VM Turbo Diesel, just to bad they didnt give the option of a 6-speed over here like they did over-seas. But the auto's are still pretty quick and some day Id love to have one. That is when I have more money...lol

Different wheel base... different height... IFS which a Cherokee does not have... different motor... different trannys... different transfercases... different objective and different class of people to attract... if anything I would say that commander is a spoof off the Cherokee... at lease its closer in looks...
This is just my opinion though... they did a **** job of trying to call them the same... however I would buy the 2011... it looks like a new Cherokee more so then the older models... also the liberty started in 2001... how can u have two different vehicles both be a Cherokee... stupid chrysler...

I'd beg to differ, wheeled mine all over CO and MOAB.

Better engine(besides the CRD,bad engine),same t-cases in both the KJ and XJ,better trans in '02 KJ's(besides manuals and the 42RLE),and yes can be built to handle the same offroading any XJ can do,even with IFS.The KJ's uniframe is also 3 times stronger then the XJ's.
Oh and the KJ's 1st year of production was '02,no such thing as a '01 KJ.The XJ was not being made when the 1st '02 KJ's came of the assembly line in March of '01.

Objective and people is hard to say it was to a different crowd. Both mid-sized SUVs at a affordable cost, with ability to tow 5000 Lbs, Both have a limited option with bells and whistles of the time period, both 4WD with aftermarket support, both have off-roading based options of skids towhooks, lights, LSDs etc. both have supporters/groups related to each style of Jeep.
Not saying one is better then the other, but I just see so much hate for Libertys here..
Wheelbase
XJ 4 dr =101.4"
02-07 KJ = 104.3"
08-current KK = 106.1"
Not much change, but as bodys change wheelbases will change.
Stats: (lots of different answers here online)
XJ :
Ground Clearance: 7.3" (from here on Cherokeeforum and Jeephorizons.com)
Approach angle = 37.6º - 38º
Departure angle = 31º - 32.1º
Breakover angle = 21º - 21.9º
KJ. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . KK
Approach Angle - 37.2. . .Approach Angle - 39.1
Departure Angle - 31.5. . Departure Angle - 32.1
Breakover Angle - 21.8. . Breakover Angle - 20.4
Ground Clearence - 8.1. . Ground Clearence - 7.7

IFS is the single biggest limiting factor in the kj.

Lmao, I meant out of the box. I honestly don't mind them. Aside from the electrical issues I've seen, IFS doesnt bother me, way of the future, get used to it.
Its ashame the aftermarket support isn't there for them.
