According to a guy on FB the Liberty is the new version of the XJ and are basically the same vehicle. I never knew this.
Your thoughts?

Yes but they are nothing a like. I understand it "took it's place" but it's not a new redesigned Cherokee. He's saying that CJ being replaced by the Wrangler is what they did with the Liberty. Except the Wrangler kept the original CJ styling. Not the same obviously but very similar. The Liberty not so much.

To me the Liberty, Compass, Caliber, and Patriot are oversized Neons.
They should have made the 4 door wrangler before they put any of these out.
I understand that these were made due to the compact SUV market boom but COME ON!!!!!!!

I guess stiffening up a uni-body, putting a D30A IFS front while leaving the 231 or 242 T-case (02-07s) and the C8.25 rear just with more comfortable coils is such a problem..
Plenty of guys wheel stock and modifed KJs and KK, just like XJs, I don't see why so many have problems with them...

Wont even consider the new liberty unless it comes with a diesel and a 5-speed. Test drove one once and it was probably the most boring bland thing ive ever driven next to a caliber or pt loser. Just because it has the badge dosent mean it has the heritage.

The liberty didn't replace the Cherokee... not even the same class... and incase most didn't know Chrysler is now owned by fiat... Maserati is also owned by fiat and a new Maserati suv will be based off the grand Cherokee platform... the liberty and compass will be based off a fiat platform next... the Cherokee was continued in China but ended in the states... like the picture above... hints the ability to swap the front end off the Cherokee pictured above onto our Cherokees... with a little more work then swapping from a 96- to a 97+ front end...

For everyone that keeps saying they are not even in the same class, please give some reason why you think that.
And if your going to compare it to a Caiber, PT Crusier or Neon give me something to give it relations??
The CRD KJ was a great option but you can thank the govt. for stopping production due to emission regulations.
As I am sure most people don't know when the Cherokee came out people hated it, it was a grocery getter station wagon of the time.

Liberty did replace the XJ, sorry. It is marketed as CHEROKEE in most of the rest of the world, it is called a Liberty in the US only. There is very little in common between the 2 rigs, except for the target market segment.

if you look at the new liberty bodystyle and squint a little.....you could imagine that if the cherokee as we know it continued production up to today, it would look a lot like that.
