Smoked/tinted tail lights
I know I am late on this post, but there is a product called Lamin-x that is a protective film but it is tinted in varying shades. I have it applies to my black 99 XJ and find that it looks nice.

If you plan to go real dark on the taillights, i recommend getting some bright LED replacement bulbs. Go real bright if you go real dark, should make up for the vibility of your lights to others a bit.

I used Rustoleum Lens Tint with the same results. Just dont overdo it! Also, unless you have aux. reverse lights, mask em off and leave them un tinted. Looks good and HUGE help when night wheeling

I always leave the reverse lights untouched on any vehicle I do.. For example.. Did this wrx and ram.
All with vht nightshade. No wet sanding or anything. Just make sure you clean the light well and you'll be good to go. I use lense wipes made for eye glasses. Make sure you use a microfiber towel or something that won't leave little fuzzies behind. You'll be kicking yourself if anything gets into them while wet. Also don't get discouraged if they don't look great while wet. The vht nightshade will dry nice and even and super glossy.
Also be aware it is removable with a rag, gasoline and lots of elbow grease.
Didn't realize how old a thread this was woops

I guess I could have updated this when I did mine. Here's my black xj with nite shaded plastics. I wet sanded everything with 2000 grit paper and used paint thinner to make sure no grease or oil was left. It turned out great. Had it done almost a year and it's done great. Wheeled it and explored plenty and it's not coming off or anything. I also coated mine with clear coat to help keep them shiny and protected

I also did my angry eyes with the same steps but the vht doesn't hold up well on glass. Over a couple months just driving in the rain and crap it started to peel. I probably could have done it with rougher sand paper but oh well

Yes sir :-)
The clear coat helps defend the nite shades from uv fading and help durability too. All the plastic parts are still 100% perfect since doing it a year ago. As for the nite shades on the silver stars, it won't hold up anyways. I'm going to try plasti dip next. I liked the nite shades cuz its transparent, but as I said it just flaked off.
