Hi all,
It's been a long time since I posted here.
I have a Sitting 98 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4 with a 4.0 straight six sitting in the driveway that has an engine problem. One of the cylinders has low compression. I was just going to sell her but I thought I would ask about her here first before I let her go.
I live in San Tan Valley, AZ and when I last searched for a mechanic I could trust to fix her, I got a long list that was mostly scary according to reviews. To be honest, I do not have or know of a solid mechanic, let alone one that does engine work. My wife is on-board to fix her so she's running again, so we can have her to tool around on our 40 acre retirement property (soon I hope!) so I am not looking to make her into a monster Jeep.
I can fix a lot of things with her, but my skill set falls short of engine work.
I do not know who to trust, and although we have a large savings cache, I do not want to blow a lot of money into something until I hook up with someone honest and good at this stuff that I can trust.
I realize this site is national and beyond, but since it is so popular, I thought I would throw this out there in case anyone here is from my neck of the woods and has someone they would like to recommend.
Thanks for listening! I appreciate it. Have a great holiday weekend!!!

Gary, you might want to voice your need in this sub-forum. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f36/
What kind of work do you need?

Hi Gary, in March I purchased a 2001 XJ. I consulted a family friend in the area that has been rebuilding XJ’s for 20+ years. He recommended Hoppers in Tempe. It’s family owned and they have done great work and prices are good. Dad and son are the mechanics. Good people. May be worth a shot?
