Default Shuld I be bummed about the "Command Track" 4WD

I was kinda bummed to find out my Jeep is Part time 4WD "Command Track". Is this like an AWD truck where 40% of the power is to the front and 60% to the rear? How big of a difference are between the Select track and command track.. I know one is as statd " Part-time" and One is "Full-time". HAs any had expiriance with both?? Shuld I be discouraged??

If you are talking about the t-case I think your talking about I have it in my 93 cherokee. I have 2hi 4hi fulltime 4 nutral and 4 low in that order. I like the np242 because the fulltime 4 is great for the snow in the winter, its nice not having to go from 4wheel to 2wheel when you get to the main roads without ice built up or doing it the other way around. If your woried about strength I go out wheeling and I have not had any trouble with my t-case, it holds up to all my abuse.

The commend trac has 2wd, 4 part time, neutral, 4 lo lock. The selec trac has 2wd, 4 high lock, 4 part time, neutral, 4 lo lock. The part time on each is similar to awd. The main difference is the command trac (np231) doesn't have 4 high lock like the selec trac (np242). From my understanding the 231 is easier to find than the 242.

Like Shane 87 said the part time is good in snow since you don't havta worry about changing out on pavement. The 4 lo is for max pulling and will get you out of most anything. As long as you have 4 lo you should be fine doing whatever you want and part time is just nice to have in the winter.

the 231 is actually rated to be a stronger t-case over the 242, the 249 is the AWD all time t-case found in only the grand's, and the 241 is the rock trac transfer case found in Wranglers which is the strongest off all the stock T-cases.

In terms of strength it goes like this from strongest to weakest

241, 231, 242, 249

your thinking full time.
part time is just that. to be used part time only.
full time can be left in 4 full time all winter long.

command trac is part time (231), select trac is full time (242).

That's what I meant, it was late and I didn't catch it. Thanks for catching that and clearing it up.
