Great job!
I'm working on mounting my switches in that vent as well. Curious to see how ours are similar/different. I cut the vent out of the "stand" it was in and made a plate for it. like so:

and this is how it'll look mounted. I have switches in it now, but no pics. and my dash is currently torn apart AGAIN. and dash is black, it's primer in the last pic.

it's pretty easy to cut some letters out of wood/foam/etc and glue them on, then just stretch the headliner fabric around them

^^ THIS.

It's also done a lot on custom speaker enclosures, trunk or hatch floors. If you use a real dense foam, it takes longer for the material to "sag" and look loose around the letters.

Haven't done much, but I love this one. Plus my coffee stickers from my place back home.

Default CB custom mount

New Cobra 29LX with custom mount. The radio face can change 4 colors to choose from. Green seems to be the most visable in the day. The JVC audio deck also chages colors and is set green to match. I am considering green LED for my interior and cargo lighting. After searching for alterative mounting loaction ideas, I decided did not want it to the side of the console and found this was the best place to mount my radio. I had to make the mount with a lower drop as to angle down for better viewing and operation. Aluminum diamond plate, tin snips and a brake. The location also covers the old OEM security IR eye. It slightly impeeds rear view mirror viewing, but is tolerable. I realy like it and recomend the mount location.

JVC with usb and bluetooth deck and my old 30gb Zune fits perfectly in the dash. Note the cup holder, this POS came with thruck when I bought it last year, it was duct taped to the side. A braket and a screw, and now it works prety good.
