Default Should I "step up" to a Grand Cherokee?

I have a '97 Cherokee that I love. Now has 193,000 miles and is costing me a little money here and there (just had to replace the radiator) but it's not a huge cost considering that it's been paid off for over a decade. It's pretty stock except that I've added offroad/tow packages and upgraded lighting.

There's a very clean 2004 Grand Cherokee with 103,000 miles for sale in my neighborhood for $6,000. Seems like a decent price. Same motor as my XJ. It's a 4x4 of course, but I'd probably have to add some off road suspension components and a trailer hitch.

I don't drive a lot off road anymore, but I still want that capability. I also have a 3,500 pound camp trailer that I tow.

So if you've had the patience to read through all that, my question is: Should I buy the Grand Cherokee or just drive my XJ for another hundred thousand miles?

Head says "Better the Devil you Know"
Heart would fancy an Overland with the HO V8.

I have a 2004 "Overland" and undoubtly one of the best I have ever owned and at 210,000 never a single problem. I have the 4.7HO motor, 3.73 gear and haul my XJ on a race car trailer (all steel) quite a bit no problem towing either.

I have been looking for another one for the wife to drive in the winter, can't seem to keep her out of mine. She has a new Town Car and would rather drive the Jeep.

a 6cyl grand is more of a side step than an upgrade, look for a v8

I own a '04 wj with a 6cyl. It never seems doggy to me. They're much more comfortable than a xj and the interiors are really nice. I've always thought it was a good looking vehicle and the '04 has the better looking front fascia as far as I'm concerned (within the wj's run). It's definitely different from driving a xj. Take it for a test drive and see if you like it.

To me a grand is more of luxury version of a jeep,They ride better and kinda handle a little better.
