I disagree

8'' and short arms....i would call this sick flex!!!!!!!!! why you always have to be such a jerk to people ktmracer?

for a mod you sure act like a 12 year old who is jealouse other people have better stuff. why dont you keep your jerkish comments to yourself? we arent here to flex our muscles yo.....

and to the op....i would buy FrankZ's long arms if i could afford them, they seem to be better quality than most companys i have seen. just look at XJSeths mad flex!! plus they are cheaper than most company's.

..

if you run short arms with that much lift you will want control arm drop brackets

So are you saying that mine is not done right because I dont have a long arm upgrade?

I am running about 8 inches of lift, control arm drop brackets with braces, factory uppers, and rubicon fixed lowers with factory bushings, I dont seem to have any problems with flex, and it still rides nice.

I think doing it right depends on what you plan on using your Jeep for.

Why is everyone so set on a long arm upgrade? Someone should star a thread for Pros and Cons of Long Arm vs. Short arm and drop brackets. I just dont see what's so great about a long arm kit, and they're not cheap either.

Greatly improved ride quality at any speed.
Greatly improved articulation of front suspension.
Improved unibody rigidity of the unibody with a better built crossmember.
Integrated t-case skid with the better built LA kits.

now that i really start thinking, my jeep see's some offroad, its a daily driver. im thinking wether i really need that much of lift. im thinking now of running a 4.5" kit with .75" spacers and shcakles. im running 30x9.50x15 and plan on keeping them. should i get adj. upper control arms as well.???

can you expand some more on a couple of these? I'm just trying to get a good understanding of why people spend the high $'s on LA kits.

How do you get a better ride quality if you are going from a factory bushing to a solid heim/joint?
My XJ flex's more than enough with short arms... I guess to some people articulation is everything.
I could see doing a new cross member and t-case skid for the fact that the factory one is chinsy as hell, I will probably be doing this in the future.

There are many designs out there and not all of them use heims. I use OEM style bushings at the axle and TeraFlex Joints at the other ends.

Ride quality is improved by moving the control arm pivot point farther back from the axle. This creates a larger arc of travel and is far less jarring than a short control arm.

When it comes to crawling, LA's are king! Why? Good question. In order to take full advantage of the available traction all four wheels need to be incontact with the ground. Lift a wheel with a short armed rig and the rig is going to have a much harder time tackling an obstacle than a LA equipped rig.

You definitely make some good points. I've never not been able to tackle an obstacle due to tire lifting or not enough articulation. And I think mine rides decent for the amount of lift, 35's, and short arms, I guess until I am following a LA'd Cherokee on a trail and he makes quick work of an obstacle I cant get up I myself wont be convinced LA kits are worth the $600 + price tags. Definitely makes an interesting argument/comparison in my book. Maybe to others not so much? Heck if I know.

Long arms all the way! If your gonna lift it you might as well do it right. I have a grand cherokee on short arms and I hate it! rides like a tank, shakes, rattles, etc! I will very soon be putting long arms on the front, and doing a triangulated 4 link in the real. I know the grand is slightly different, but the front suspension is identical. Oh, and as far as the drop brackets go, put them in my scrap bin where they belong! Have them on mine and drag them on everything! I have bent 2 arms in the last 3 monts to the point of trashing them. Had I known, I would have never used them. I did build some braces for them, if I hadn't I would have torn the mounts off my frame. Worst design ever! Drop brackets are !

Spend a little more now, save a lot later!

Hey frank, how much are your arms?
