Never had to buy shocks for a lifted xj. I am looking for a nice ride. I think my jeep has rc shocks on it now and the ride is stiff. Looking to spend around $50/shock.

Pro comp makes ok shocks for that price. They are going to ride a lot better than RC. I ran bilsteins with my 3 inch lift and rode great. I still have those and they are still pretty new and don't use them anymore

Pro-Crap shocks are the same as any other white body shocks. Save your money.

If you care about ride i would spend the money and get bilstein.Any other cheap shock will ride rougher just like those rc shocks are now.

How's your shackle angle? Stock lowers? All these things factor into your ride quality as well.

X2...you aren't going to get very far with performance for a lifted rig with that kind of coin. Spend a little bit more, and get something worth 2 craps, you'll be happier.

From Frank's site:

About $75 per shock. Not too much more, and you'll be happier in the long run...

I just went from a 3 inch lift to a 6 inch and run FOX shocks. A very good choice if you don't mind spending extra for great shocks. They worth the money.

Here is my shackle angle. S10 bastard pack rear lift. 3" rough country coils with a 1.5" spacer in the front.

Yeah, you'll need to address that shackle angle if you want a better ride. Ideally, you'd want a 45* angle. It looks like yours is almost pulled past 90*.

A XJ main will kick it back a little, but nowhere where it should be. I had the same problem when I was running XJ/XJ bastard packs. Relo brackets are really a great mod with a lot of bang for the buck.

For shocks, the JK ones are nice for up front, but I found them too short for the rears. I used Ford F150 4x4 rear shocks that I had laying around. Nothing spendy and I was happy with the ride with the addition of the relo's.

Right now I run edelbrock remote resi's, but after losing a hydraulic line, I'm running cheapy white bodies in the front. The ride is still pretty good in my opinion, but I'm running long arms, relo's, and my shackle is at a nice angle. Everything really compliments each other, which is important with your suspension.

Shocks are just part of the equation. The best shocks in the world won't fix bad suspension geometry.

I'm going to start with removing the 2nd leaf and relocation brackets.
