ok so i have already ordered my sye kit from advance adaptors and am waiting for it to come in i have an auto tranny and 4.5" RC lift with full packs and 2" shackles. im gonna use a front driveshaft from another xj instead of spending all the money on a brand new driveshaft. so basically i have 2 questions one will i need a shim or to shim? second as you may have been able to tell idk what a shim is so can someone educate me on what one is please? thanks as always guys.

Well shims sit in between the leaf packs and the spring perches. its shaped like a wedge and it causes the axle to rotate depending on the degree of shim you have. In other words shims will cause the differential to rotate up or down. Giving you a better driveshaft angle.

ok so my local jeep specialist shop said theyll install the sye for around 350 so im def gonna get that done, my next question is i know my driveline angles are off now so they said i should have my whole driveline readjustded and reangled and theyd want another 450 for that so with tax thats right around 900 bucks. is that worth it labor wise and everything or am i getting ripped? also so should i go with that in or see if someone can help me shim it or pay to get it shimmed or do nothing and see how bad my vibes still are, i have 4.5" lift and 2" drop shackles also so i might not even need to shim it or have anything really reangled, just wondering what you guys would suggest in this situation, i personally think i should have it all done so that way i know its all done and all doen right, but three of my jeep buddies think its not needed and way over priced.

That is way too much money for that. They are taking you for a ride. I could do it for you in about 20 minutes if I had a shim selection at my finger tips. All you need is an angle finder available at tool stores. It should be set up to look like this,

ok so i just called and talked to zach from rustys off road and he told me repositioning my whole driveline is totally uneeded and putting a set of shims for my leaf springs will work just fine and be alot cheaper. so thats the route im gonna take.

That is what I did for my own, and what I would do for anyone else. Your driveline at the pinion should look like this when your done.

The short version is I added a 4° shim under the spring pad and that tipped the pinion up enough to make it a straight shot on the single pinion u joint. The other end has a CV joint. To determine how much you need, the angle finder on the bare pinion after taking the ubolts loose. (you don't have to support the vehicle for this and is better if you don't) Note the measurement. Take a hydraulic jack or floor jack and jack up the pinion until if you hold the rear of the drive shaft next to the pinion it would be a straight shot. Note the measurement and subtract the little number from the big one and that is how much to add. Really very simple and fast if you have air tools. Then support the vehicle and remove the center bolt from the spring and add the shim. Button it up and you are done.

Just finished mine last week! The only thing thats frustrating are the c-clips in the output shaft!! Make sure you have a good pair of snap ring pliers!
