Default The Search and Recovery of First Jeep!!

Ok so hopefully this turns into a build in the future. I hope that the long back story turns into a complete circle one day. Only time will tell. If you don't want to read that long A$$ story its ok by me ha-ha. I will be a little sad if my last post is it’s been crushed lol.

So here is the background.

In 1994 my parents bought a 1989 Jeep Cherokee Laredo. It was in mint condition with 89,500 miles on it. It was red, 4 door, 5 spd, and 4x4. I was just a little kid (25 now) then and loved that thing. I would shift gears for my mom from the passenger seat on the way to school. I remember so much about that thing when it was my mom’s DD. When I turned 14 I went and took my test for my permit 3 days after I turned 14. I failed the first time. If you fail in Arkansas you have to take the test again. That was the longest week of my life lol. I went back that next week and only missed one question. My mom wouldn't let me drive home because she wanted my dad to be the one for me to drive (legally) first. I waited very for him to get home. As soon as he pulled up, I ran outside and ask him if we could go drive. He was tired but, knew how bad I wanted to go. He agreed to go under the condition that we took my mom’s Jeep. He told me that if he taught me that I was going to learn on a manual. I had driven his truck before this around the deer camp but never on the highway. I got behind the wheel and pushed that clutch in and fired her up. I was a great feeling. My dad told me that he wanted me to take us to my grandparents. I put it in reverse and slowly let out the clutch and then. It died lol. It was a fun trip. My dad made me stop in the middle of a steep hill. He told me the test was taking off without killing it. I was a quick learner and took off perfect up that steep hill. Ok enough with that part. Back then after you had had your permit you could apply for a hard ship license after 6 months with a permit. That would allow you to drive to school, work and other approved activities. I went to school that next week and signed up for every after school program I could. After the six months I wrote my essay for my application and with as many programs I had joined I knew I would get the hard-ship. Sure enough I did. I went the next week to take my driving portion of the test. My dad told me that I had to take the test in the jeep. If I could pass in a manual I was ready to drive on my own. I passed with flying colors. The lady told my mom that she was very impressed that a 14 year old had passed in a standard. It was the last week of my 9th grade year and my parents let me drive the jeep to school. That summer my dad told me that I could work for him and save up money if I wanted. My papaw also told me that if I cut his grass all summer he would give me an old F-100 pickup he had. I agreed. I worked hard for my dad doing construction that whole summer. Every Saturday I would go to my grandparents and take care of their yard. Well the last week of the summer I guess my papaw had a change of heart. (He was never really a good person). He decided that he wanted to keep the truck and offered me $300 instead for all the hard work that I had done. My dad taught me to be the better person. I told my papaw to keep the money and the truck, and "you’re welcome for the yard work". You can imagine how crushed I was. That Sunday my dad came to me and said cheer up we will see what we can find for you. He asks me how much money I had saved. I had about $1000. He ask me if I wanted my mom’s jeep. My eyes got huge and I ran to my money spot, pulled out all my money and handed it over. He laughed at me and gave me half of it back. He told me I worked hard and deserve a good vehicle. He had a trade in offer on the jeep for $2600. They sold it to me for $500. I drove it for a couple of years and then the motor started acting up. It had almost 300K miles at that point. It broke down on me and I wasn't good at working on stuff at only 17. I traded it away for an old truck that ran. I know that was a long back story but hey If you sat here and read it then I’m sure you smiled a few times.

It’s been about 10 years and a number of vehicles since that time
1989 Jeep Cherokee
1978 F-100 pick up
1998 S-10
1987 Ford Bronco (full size)
1979 Dodge Pickup
Currently own:
2005 GMC Canyon
2003 F-150
1995 Jeep Cherokee
1997 F-150
1993 Ford Bronco (full Size)

My 1995 Cherokee as my toy/hunting rig. I decided that I was going to try to locate my old jeep and buy it back if possible.
I started my search in my parent’s file cabinet. I had to locate some info for me to begin the search. I looked and looked and couldn't find anything with the VIN# on it. I forgot about it for a while and today my dad called me. He ask me if I still wanted the VIN# for the jeep and told me where he found it.

Of all places it was on a receipt for a garage bill he had from 1996. The bills description was this “Shimmy in front suspension. Steering stabilizer bushing replaced” $256 Ha-ha. Death wobble is the only reason I can continue this search ha-ha.
With the VIN# I have found the latest on the jeep and its last known location is Bald ****, Ar and has not been dismantled. However it has not been registered since 2007. I am working on my connections to find out the name and possible address to the last registered owner.

Getting a build sheet for it soon. I will update when I get that.

As of right now I’m looking for more information on it.
I have the Vin#
Old Tag #
And last Title #
Hopefully I find out more soon. I will update with anything new when it comes in

All I can say is good luck in your search. Hopefully you find the old Jeep, and it hasn't been parted out, or crushed.

Very possible. If it was crushed it should have been entered as Dismantled and the DMV does not show that. Ill keep looking until I find something definite.

Don't you mean half empty lol. I know there is a slim chance but hey still got to try haha. If it was used a a cash for clunkers the title record would end with Dismantled. That is what I was told by DMV. If it was parted out by person then I may have no luck.
But there is a small chance that an old man had it on a farm and died in 2007. The ole lady still lives there and lets me have it haha. I guy can dream right lol.

Not sure what the beginning of yours meant. Hey I don't mind if if I find it almost stripped at least It would be a successful search.

Could be AX-15 or the Ba-10/5?

Since I don't currently own the jeep I don't want to put the vin # out there. If it was mine I wouldn't care. But since someone else owns it I wouldn't feel right giving there information out. I know car fax won't give personal information. The "Right to Privacy act". I do appreciate the offer though.

I am actually getting a name and address from the last registered owner sent to me tonight.

Source is classified but if he can't get the info nobody can.

Getting there. I should have a name and address tonight.

I will try finding that person tomorrow. To me it is fun trying to locate it. Would be shocked and ecstatic if I actually find it.
