That really is a good price for a 00 model, but why is it so low. If you go to look at it, pay close attention to any signs of accident repair or flood damage. Even though a Carfax report is honestly useless because most of the damage and repairs are never reported, ask for it anyway. It will at least tell what states it has been titled in and when. If it was in a flood area like New Orleans during Katrina you may want to steer clear of it.

Could it have smaller than stock tires?

Heres the email they sent me:
Hi ,

Thanks for being interested in buying my car. It is in a good condition, no scratches,no damages, never been implicated in any accidents,no problems at the engine, runs very well. The car has a clear title, is a perfect car. The price is not negotiable $2.900 firm. The only thing because i am selling it,because i divorced with my husband and after the divorce i own this car,now as a woman i don`t need it(i don`t have driver license)... We will use only eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection to complete the sale. If you are interested and you have the funds available email me your full name and shipping address.

Thanks.

sound mexicain or something...

One thing to be very careful about on Craigslist are the scams. The Atlanta area was a major target for stolen vehicle sales on CL. The scammer would buy a vehicle with a counterfeit cashiers check and then resell it in a different city at a unbelievably low price for cash. By the time the second buyer went to file for the new title, the original seller had discovered that their payment was fake and repoted the vehicle stolen. The original seller gets the vehicle back, the crook gets away with your cash, and you just lose your hard earned money. So if it sounds to good to be true or the seller seems overly motivated to sell it, have the local police run the VIN for a theft report.

Absolutely, the vehicle could be stolen with the VIN plates from one in the junkyard.

There is a 89 around the corner from my moms house for sale. The sign sats "make offer" but the girl is asking $700. The body is in good shape except for a dent in the drivers front door and the right rear quarter panel. The interior is amazingly in good shape except for the headliner sagging which is normal for the older XJs. It's biggest issue is the motor is completely trashed. My brother offered her $200 and we are waiting for an answer. If you serch around you can find deals like that all over. With $3K the motor could be rebuilt, brakes rebuilt, a small lift installed, and a decent set of offroad tires mounted. A small investment of money, a little hard work in the driveway and you could drive the trails in a very capable vehicle.

That makes good sense. You really shouldn't start with your first one being a huge project with one headache repair after another.
