I just got a 89 cherokee and have been doing general tune up stuff on it. I did things in this order, cleaned all vac lines and vac valves, cleaned airbox and throttle body. dumped half a can seafoam in oil, drove for about 80 miles, sucked the other half up the brake vacuum line, let it stall out at the end and sit for an hour, started it and drove it hard at high rpms covering the neighborhood in a thick cloud
.
CHANGED OIL AND SPARK PLUGS AFTER.
Results, extremly smother idle, higher rpms at idle, increased throttle response, increased power. In fact so much more power that when I drove it after doing the seafoam though the brake hose (called a hot soak btw) it burned out without me trying cause it was so low on power before :P
Anyway seafaom is great stuff ive been using it for years on ALL my cars from bmws to nissans to mitsubishis now to a jeep
never had anything but exceptionally great results!
My jeep has 240k miles, has clearly had poor maintenance due to the build up in the throttle body and the sludge under the oil cap. I will be adding a whole can into the oil again and driving for a few hundred miles and changing oil again.
I guess you dont have to change it if you just put it in the intake, but some say dirt gets pasts the rings doing it. I've allways just done it when I needed to change my oil anyway.
The brake booster line is connected to the center of the intake manifold and is about a foot long and 1/2 wide, it goes to the round black thing thats right behind where you add brake fluid up by the firewall on the drivers side, you cant miss it.
go here, read about it, watch the video, believe in seafoam!

do it to ANY car ANY time to help it alot. If you get a brand new car and do this around every 10,000 miles you will have a clean engine forever.

I'm not putting in in my crank case because i dont have the money to change the oil in the next week, I still have another 1000 before I have to change it, then I'll put the seafoam in. Which is better? Throttle body or brake line?

no your supposed to use a spot on the center of the manifold which is the brake booster on these cars, the tb is more towards the back. also you dont want to distribute it fast you want to steadily suck it up with a vacuum line. you only dump it in the tb on a carb engine.
Again go to the seafoam website it explains all!

I dont know your situation... but just change it yourself. You can get oil and filter from autozone for under $20. I change mine and I plan on seafoaming mine next weekend and change the oil. I just changed it about 3 weeks ago but I am trying to see if i can get this thing cleaned out a little.

the brake booster is not connected to the valve cover, those are the valve cover breather vacumm lines that the are going out not in. The brake booster is connecter to the center of the intake manifold is about a foot long and 1/2 wide and goes to the round black thing by the fire wall which is right behind where you add brake fluid. Yeah pouting it in a cup makes it easier then suck it up. and yea $20 oil change at autozone

my Cherokee XJ has 229k & it's due for a CA smog test. i decided to try to clean out the engine by using sea foam & see for myself what the hype is all about.
using 2 cans i sea foamed the "buh-jesus" out of my Cherokee XJ & no smoke show what so ever. i used 2 can's all together. one full can in the gas tank & the other can - half in crank case & the other half through the brake booster vacuum line. still no smoke signals from the Cherokee spirit within.
however i can say that after the sea foam treatment, the idle was definitely a lot smoother & the throttle response was a little more stronger than before. i plan on changing the oil this weekend with a quart of lucas oil stabilizer & then by next week, i will take it to a CA smog certified shop. hopefully the results will be a passing grade.

I'd put it in the TB....if you're due for new o2 sensors and a cat then I'd do both.
I think putting it through my vac lines last summer ruined my cat and o2 sensors.

Think Seafoam would help me? I got a new reman motor - I've done some searching and I have not read anything about Seafoaming on a new engine - the only thing I can come up with is to put it in the gas tank - suggestions?
