I found this in the local yard today...$130. Found it in an '87 with less than 100k. Its nice and tight and has 3.55's. Hardly any rust on it, which is unusual up here with winters and such. Now I just have to decide whether to sell it to fund the 8.8 swap, or ditch the 8.8 since this is in such good shape...

yeah, I want 4.88's for 35's. I already have an 8.8, and I paid the same for it. but its stripped, cleaned and in pieces in the corner of the shop. it needs brakes and a swap kit, gears...and a locker. just not sure what direction I want to go. maybe I should sell them both and do something else...

i'm torn. I've got all the parts from the 8.8 to do a disc conversion on the 44. minus the spacers, rotors (zj) and pads. the 8.8 is worth less than the 44, but some would argue stronger. I wouldn't really have to weld the tubes on the 44 either. after looking at it yesterday, I see that the tubes on the 44 are welded in six spots on each side whereas the 8.8 is only welded in three spots on each side. the 44 is a little wider negating spacers too. i am a staunch proponent of the 8.8, but after have both on the bench and comparing costs, i think the 44 wins out. i'll post a little build up on it when its complete.
i'm thinking this...
disc brakes
3.92 + carrier
4.88's
chromos
relocate shock mounts
e-locker
homebrew truss
anti-wrap perches (stock ones are TINY)
ruff stuff cover
