Alright, I am new here and new to Jeeps. I am not new to wheelin. I have been geographically seperated from my 63 Scout for 3 years and really need to get back into a 4x4 something. The car is killing me!
So I am looking for an early 90's model. What should I look for?
I am sure the 4.0 is the way to go. But how common are the 4.0's coupled with a manual trans. What am I getting into as far as fuel and re-gearing issues with a 5" lift and 33"s? What if I end up with an automatic and 33"s? What kind of mileage is too 100,000/ 200,000?
Oh yeah, why can"t I view any pics embedded in the threads?
Thanks,
Steve

Well, mines auto with a 4.5" lift, 33's and 186xxx miles and I know I get more than 220 miles out of a tank, and would estimate 270 Highway.
City driving however...Easily chop that number in half.
Gearing is 3.55
Mines so early 90's ...it came out right before lol
edit: ...I forgot... Welcome to CF!

I'd say go for 91-96 for your first one. It's not too hard to get a 4.0 with a manual trans. It's less common than the auto but I still see plenty of them around. I run 6.5" lift and 33's and no re-gearing. The mileage on the highway is a lot better than around town.
Currently have 178,000 on the 4.0 and runs like a top. The one before this one had 220,000 sold it to a kid who was still driving it 3 years later.
It's a great vehicle to get into. Welcome aboard.
