... How hard and expensive do you think this would be?

I ran this video of an XJ on YouTube ...
... and noticed the guy had blended the pre-1997 style fenders into the '97 and up header panel. I think the end result looks absolutely brilliant and, considering how much cheaper the pre-1997 fenders are versus the newer ones, I have to wonder if blending the newer header panel into the older fenders would be more cost effective than just buying the complete '97 and up front clip for my '91 Laredo build.
I actually like the end result better here in any case. The older fenders do fit the flow of the XJ's styling better than the newer ones do. I just don't care for the older header panel and what it limits you to in terms of aftermarket lights, etc.

I'd almost want to say you'd sand the header panel to blend it, but looking at the back side of it, I'm afraid the fiberglass would be too thin.
EDIT: Would someone just build the corners up with more fiberglass or bondo then shave it down to match?

you were looking at that jeep, and the one thing that stood out to you was his fenders. huh
I don't know what materials he used for his or what experience you have. but it would be fairly difficult to get it to come out as clean as that. you'll have to figure out how to work fiberglass. you wont be able to fill the gap with sheet so you'll have to essentially mold the pieces yourself. the difficulty comes in matching the other side. pony up the dough and get different fenders from junk yard or other. getting that to look good is going to be frustrating

What can I say? I'm a sucker for small custom details like that.
Either way, I don't think I'll bother since I'm probably going to sell the '91 and put the money into a '99 anyway.
