private dealerships are sometimes worse than private sales. They get cheap junk cars and make them look good enough to sell. Then when something goes wrong a month after you buy it, it's not their problem they says screw you, sold as is. Small dealerships know how to scam people and can get away with it.

Just about all of those have mileage above my goal of below 150K and the only one I could be interested in doesnt even have the mileage posted. Post 97 is what I'm looking for, NO tan interior. Two of those have rebuilt titles as well and have seen them and almost considered as well. The one is FOCO I called on, some douchebag said "its not for sale, my friends posted it as a prank" I said "maybe they should look up the term fraud and stop being stupid". I've seen them all guys, I look everyday on Janklist. You do not find a limited, in flame red with leather often.

The thing none of you have mentioned so far is the fact that you can send titles to several states and have them retitled and cleaned so it doesn't show it a salvage title or mileage on the new one. This was done for many years mostly by crooks but even some dealers and wholesalers.

May not be able to any more but is has only came about recently that it stopped if it has, so many of you with older cars may have one and not even know it. It was shame how long this went on (decades) and how many people got screwed with the ploy.

All I can add if you really like this one and can deal with the known issues buy it and enjoy, I know I would you live and learn in 68 years lol.

the jeep your looking at has over 150k on it. It was an rv tow vehicle so it has a good bit of unregistered miles. You don't have to have a limited to get leather interior. But a lower model and get the seats after. Pretty much everything can be changed on these jeeps with little cost and little time. Get yourself a flame red xj without leather for a couple grand or so cheaper and then get the leather later.

Then go buy it. Stop trying to justify a dumb purchase to people who know better.

We've read the details. Nobody here thinks it's a private sale. As I and others have stated, they're in the business of buying cars at auction, putting as little into it as possible, then selling it for as much as they can. They will tell you all sorts of things to get you to buy the car. So much so, you're actually starting to sound like them. I have never heard of a "rebuilt from salvage" title. It's either salvage or not. It may even say that on the title, but it will still be considered a salvage to the people that matter, such as a finance company, insurance, or whomever buys it in the future. Ask to see the title. See what it says, with your own eyes. Ask to see the receipt from the Jeep dealership for the work done on the locks. See what happens.

You stated at the end of your very first post, this is your first major car purchase, and asked for advice. We gave it to you, but you don't want to listen. Go buy it, then. It's your money, after all. If you want to squander it on a bad purchase, then by all means, have at it. You could get a much better XJ, for less money, if you are willing to sacrifice some things, all of which can be resolved later, by putting some time and effort into it. Don't like the interior? Buy parts from a part out, or JY, and replace. Not the color you wanted? Have it painted. Both of these could be done, for the same amount of coin, if you buy a Cherokee for much less money elsewhere. And why the hangup on mileage? These things go and go...if they're maintained properly.

Anyways, I've said my piece. Seacreast out. Good luck to you.

Somehow lost my whole post, so to abbreviate:

It took me six months to find the XJ I wanted in the front range. Like you I had specific color and mileage requirements. I ended up with the jeep I wanted but with 165k instead of <150k. I snuck into a dealer before the online posting had been completed with photos, and three people were scheduled to look at it after me. I bought it in cash on the spot. I was lucky and willing to wake up earlier to be the first one in the door. The market for clean XJs in Colorado is nuts and if you want one, you will need to put some time and patience into finding one. Craigslist posters will jerk you around and it is frustrating, but you will eventually find what you're looking for.

The point peeps are making is YOU should be unwilling to part with an exorbitant amount of (borrowed) cash for a substandard vehicle. You'll never see any reduction in the selling price of this vehicle. If they don't sell it in a reasonable amount of time the dealer will just dump it at auction and buy 4 or 5 more.

Have you ever personally witnessed a police pursuit? If so, you really wouldn't want to be the future owner of ANY of the vehicles involved.

That's all peeps are saying so put on your big boy pants and don't take it so personally.
ETA,
Here go look at this:

Yeah, looks like it sold lol. And it wasn't in a police chase, it was crashed with the damage I was told of and abandoned and found a few days later, given to insurance that day or the next day, I'd have to check the report again.. Victory Motors has a red Classic. Perfect as well. Except the awful rims and 214K...anyways hate to even keep posting on here, but it seems I have made quite a thread so I'll brief on the continuation of this...dilemma. Chase(my bank) won't loan to me for a car older than 5 years, so the loan is irrelevant regardless of any XJ for me; furthermore I only need about $1500 at this point to afford this and a registration. My dad said he'd even loan it to me regardless of my pick. Insurance will indeed do full coverage on this vehicle and same thing, the age to them is more relevant than the title. "Its old who cares?" Thats basically what they said lol. Got a deposit on it to double check it, have a time set up for my mechanic who is also my oldest close friend, who also has a body shop next door and they exchange parts, and order each other various stock, etc. Anyways, fire at me if you want. Will I take it? Who knows, I'm still 50/50. And regarding the RV thing, I don't see much relevance either. The only proper way you can tow an XJ on all 4s (and most other Jeeps) is to put the transfer case in neutral, this disegages the whole drivetrain. So you get wear on suspension and the tires, and some idle wear on u-joints, and maybe some bushings up front, at most. Well the tires are brand new, who wants OEM shocks anyways, replace bushings for death wobble prevention, and u joints go all the time regardless for no reason, or they'll last 100k. Simple already known XJ maintenance needs and this is all torque-less wear, you aren't accelerating and braking with it in a traffic jam, its just an RVs tag along puppet. That's all for now.

Was emailed this, its not this Jeep but the guy said this is almost 100% what the front looked like, the other damage was to the rear bumper and taillight which were obviously replaced.

the issue isn't with proper rv towing really. It's when it's done improperly. Trans in neutral spinning and ruining the trans. Not everyone knows the correct way to do things. There are lots of stupid people in the world and you're giving them way too much credit.

A "Rebuilt" title is used in many states and simply means that it was repaired and passed inspection and is legal to register again, in states that require an inspection after repairs. Here in PA a "Salvage" title vehicle cannot be registered or driven on public roads, but after it has been repaired (only items required for inspection need repaired, cosmetic only damage that does not affect function can be left as is) and inspected by a state approved station the "Salvage" title can be converted to a "Rebuilt" title which can then be registered and driven on public roads.

As far as value goes it is still a "branded" title and "Salvage" and "Rebuilt" have the same affect on value (cutting it in half at least).

Thank you for your post. Good to know. But effectively it is still a salvage title, as you stated...

Colorado has a few laws on my side...

A snip of the statute written over "Rebuilt from Salvage" titles in CO. The state inspects them before allowing it back on the road. Better than nothing. whats with the resale concern? Its worth a couple Gs regardless. I'm not looking to buy, to sell lol.
