The rad cap is new and the aux fan kicks on when the heat is on. How do I know if the fan clutch is bad and would hood vents solve my problem?

Does the fan kick on when it gets to a certain temp or just when heat is on. If not than that's your problem most likely, I had to hard wire mine to a switch in a cab.

well, there is a simple fix for the time being. You don't want to run it hot consistantly because it can cause damage to the head. You can pull out the thermostat and let it free flow for now. One thing that may help out a lot is a electric fan. Get rid of that garbage clutch fan, and go to your local auto parts store and get a high cfm electric fan and run it to switch on the inside, or you can tie it into the ignition so that it automaticly comes on when you crank your truck. The hood vents will help out. Its going to help draw the heat out, at the same time, it will let the cool air in. You can also go to your local jy and get a fan off a ford taurus or eclipse and just run a power wire to the igintion, and run one for a ground and you will be good. I did this because down here in florida, it gets really hot in the summer and especially in beach traffic thats stop and go. I have mine on a toggle switch so that I can turn on my fan if the truck starts to overheat and I cut the ignition off in traffic. Spent a whole 30 bucks and it works GREAT! I also bought a 160 deg thermostat to try to keep it running cooler. Just my 2 cents.

I ran without a thermostat for over years.
Assuming you have a good flow through the cooling system, the electric fan the bread and butter of staying cool. I agree with these guys that say to check it.
Have your heater off, and just let your jeep idle. When it gets +210 see if it kicks on.

Summit racing, JEGS, and most aftermarket parts suppliers have them. You might could check pep-boys. I got mine from Advance Auto Parts. It was just a regular 160 deg that was in the section that has the valve covers and stuff like that. My temp rarely, rarely gets over 170 deg even wheelin. I got a few pics to prove it, just gotta find them. Running without a thermostat won't hurt. All the thermostat does primarily is control your heater. When you take the theromstat out, you are creating a free flowing pump. One thing you have to remember to do is bleed the air out of the cooling system after pulling any hoses or pulling the theromostat out. If you don't, you will overheat still and it will really p*** you off because.
