RTT, growing trend.
Roof Top Tents
Seems like a growing trend for camping, lets discuss!
What do you know about them.
Do you have one?
Any first hand experience?
Of course links and your pictures would be great.
What would you do different about the one you have/had?

I think setting up a tent on the ground is just fine. And if it's needed, gear goes to the roof, humans get the inside.. I mean, it's cool I guess, but the price? And ya still need level ground to park on right? Idk, not for me.

If I were around dangerous animals, and had three people with me, then maybe I might invest in one.
Shoot I am 6' tall and I fit laying down in the back of the xj. Ground tent is fine also.
Sorry I am no help. But you have to love public forums lol

I like them. The idea of being up is always cool. Just like the elevation. I don't see the need for most camping folks do in the US, so kinda negates the aspect of camping of bring only what you need. Cost does seem high, but as Jeepers, I see all kinds of DIY options being attempted.
Now, reality for me is this. Only time I would need to sleep in my Jeep, the weather outside would not allow for a tent, high up or on the ground. Blizzards, Hurricanes, Floods, lightning, hail, are some of the things this Jeep is about so sleeping 'outdoors' is pretty much a not.

for expedition type trips RTTs are awesome. dont get me wrong setting up a regular tent isnt difficult by any means, but when you pull into camp at night after driving all day its so nice to be set up in 5 minutes.

I REALLY like RTTs...
But, when we go camping we set up camp for the week or weekend then drive the Jeep all over always coming back to the same camping spot.
The only way a RTT would be practical around here would be to have it on top of an off-road trailer (Which I want badly).
Now, if I had thousands of miles to roam and I set up camp in a different spot each night then I could see it being practical.
Plus, a RTT would last about 5 minutes on my roof before it was a mangled pile of metal and canvas on the ground behind me.

Something like...
It's a shame that the tent in that picture most likely cost more than the vehicle it's on. lol

It's just there for me for the price, but I have seen people build offroad trailers and drop pop up campers in them and have considered doing that.

Looking at them, they seem awefully big for one person, maybe even big for two. I would consider one if they were half the size and half the price.

Initial thought was that they were cool, now having thought about it, not practical for me. I set up camp and need the jeep for driving to other spots, I almost never have a flat spot to park, I like tents that are tall enough for me to stand up in(so I can change my dirty clothes), and it cost too much. They look like a good idea for some type of camping though. Just not my type.
