pipe is for plumbing, tubing is structural.

I know I wouldn't use anything other than DOM for a permanent part of my jeep. but at the very least use HREW.

1 5/8 and 1 3/4 (both .120" wall) are both popular sizes to use. 1/4" thick would add a ton of weight.

If you're not using DOM don't waste your time and money. Do it right the first time.

HREW cages are a one time roll and they're compromised.

for anything that will see constant abuse like hitting rocks/trees, i would use DOM. otherwise you can get away with HREW as long as its built right.

I prefer the TandJ Performance cage. Costs less than the materials would cost.

That's what's in mine with added tube here and there.

Call em up.

There's a reason pretty much every racing and off roading sanctioning body requires DOM for cages. Strike HREW with a hammer and strike DOM and you can see how much of a strength difference there is.

You can roll a well built HREW cage and it will seem fine, but the structural integrity will be far more compromised than DOM would be.

If you're going to build something structural designed to quite possibly save your life it's not something to go cheap on. There's not that big of a price difference in DOM and HREW anyway.

I was thinking of getting that. How would the HREW be for the interior? One roll over and you need to replace it? Might be worth making my own with DOM at that point..

You know roughly how much their cages are? Site doesn't list them and I don't want to bother them for just a pricing question.

After building cages & chassis for 20 years, I can tell you design is most important. HREW is what the cage in my XJ is made of.. Personally if I'm going to spend the $$$$ for DOM, I'll just go straight to 4130N chromoly, for a couple dollars more/ft. 1-3/4" or 2"x.120" HREW is what I prefer for a budget cage. So if I'm paying $2.00 more/ft, I'll just pay $4.00/ft more & get the 4130. This is my XJ in the thread below. There are pics from before and after the 40ft cliff episode. BTW this cage is 1-3/4"x.095" HREW and in great shape.. Make sure you go through all 3 pages.

I think when it comes to safety, and especially for a roll cage, I'll spring for the DOM. Thanks for the link, I'll be sure to read all of it! I just want to find the best internal setup that doesn't take up too much passenger/cargo room.

Here's the link to the T&J/Barnett cage. It's $700. It's Jeepspeed legal. Does not look like DOM, as DOM is dark colored.

When I bought mine I paid $699.99 for the cage. $120 shipping then got about $120 bucks off for being a NAXJA member.

Then I added about 300 bucks worth of tube to it after that.

It's not, you can see the seem in it in the pictures.

Jeepspeed doesn't have a cage requirement for material, but the rules recommend 1.75" .120 DOM.
