2x6 is generally the best.

3x4 you lose 1" ground clearence over the 2x6 and the other issue is that with the 2x6 it comes out beyond the doors to provide a little bit of extra protection and your 4" wide wont do that.

A lot of other pics on my profile album. I'm happy with the 2" tube, cut the rotten rockers out and tube in place, some new floor at the same time. do you welds inside and out, pull those carpets back, way back, have a hose and extinguisher handy and someone on fire watch while u weld. Don't melt wires or seat belts. On 31's and 3.5" lift, my lowest point under the rockers on level ground is just over 19" clear. To rdo again I might position for an extra 1/2" stickout. Tough, real tough, I can jack the whole side off the new rockers. Measure before and make sure your B pillars (pillars between doors) are correct distance, they will want to spring outward when the rockers are cut out, ratchet strap them inwards if need be. I put the tube on jack stands and then jacked up tight into place before welding, coat with rust paint to complete. Good luck.
