I think one or two asked me about this when I did the Up Country Suspension Group decals repros a while ago, and while I kind of poo-poo'd the idea in the PMs I got then, I want to get some official interest drummed up for these.
My suspicion is that most, if any, of these requests will be from across the pond, but if there's significant interest, I will do a run of these; the amount of interest will determine what size of run I do.
There is a local vendor who specializes in exactly this style of decal: domed/dimensional, with the metallic backing, so I will be within driving distance of production itself. Rough price estimates will be more than the Up Country decals, because of the more involved production, but the more interest there is, the more quantity of scale there will be and the lower the end price.
From what I've been told and gathered, these were applied 3x to an XJ, but I will sell in sets of 3 or individuals.
Feel free to respond either in this thread or via PM to me. Please, only genuine purchase interest on this poll.
I did find a few threads asking about it, so hopefully there's some interest drummed up. Thanks to the generosity of a member, MaskedMallard, I've secured an actual decal to start work on. I'd say I'm about 80% there:
never mind the shoddy home-laser-print-out that lacks decent detail.
I've also worked with a local vendor who exclusively does this kind of work (I think I mentioned that already...), so hopefully within the month I'll have these ready to go. Hopefully sooner.
The trickiest bit was getting a decent reference of the decal, even though I have it on my person. It won't scan well, as the dimensional dome of the decal pushes it off the focal plane of every flatbed scanner—I mean, it's passable, but not to my liking. I ended up using my DSLR and getting the focus just so, and it gave me nice sharp edges to work from.
I wish I had a way to alert any of you XJ fans across the pond… I'll probably cross post this from another thread as well.
We are ready for production! Here's how we're looking:
Obviously, there's some consideration for the fact that the original is well worn and taken with a camera lit from a single flash, not overcast sunlight, and the design is a computer screen shot as well.
