Are you going to have someone install your gears? I am waiting to re-gear because when I do I would like to put in selectable front lockers. I would love to go with 4.10s but then I would have to re-gear the 8.8 I have. It has 3.73 gears and I don't think there will be that much diff between 4.10s and 3.73s. Money plays a huge roll when it comes to up-grading things. I would like good highway gearing, that is why I am considering the Tera transfer case up-grade, That alone would put me where I would like to be on the trail.

Sounds like a good plan, Went wheeling last Sunday. Had a pretty good time. There is a good size rock slab that we went down but on the way back up it started raining and with mine being a 5spd it would have been nice if I had lockers. My friend had no issues as once he got up onto the slab his tranny was able to keep him moving. My wheels just spun in the lowest gear, so I ended up winching up. I really can't wait to do gearing and lockers some day.

Good choice on the 4.11 with 33s.
I have 4.56 on 33s and it is a bit too much, especially on the street. They will work much better when I put on the 35" Duratracs.

Thank you! most people tell ya that you need 4.56 on 33s but I don't plan to run larger tires on these axles anyway, plus with 4.10 you don't have to get a different ring carrier or grind teeth down to fit the center pin!

So I got the new ring on the carrier today but had to stop for my family graduation party, its finally over and I can get back to work! Also I got a new head unit and a snorkel kit as gifts, f*** yeah! On top of that I made a deposit for my front axle today and im getting it monday, then I can drill the knuckles for the 1 ton utk I have and get it on the jeep, so far going smoothly! Apparently months of research helps a bit

That is the very first time in over 4 yrs of reading post's here and on other sites that anyone has said that about 4.10 gears with 33's and 35's even a better choice with them.
Under gearing sucks I know been there with 31 and 33" tires with 3.55 gears they both sucked and mpg was poor along with power and constant up/down shifting with an AW4 along with trans overheating. All this because of gears period when I switched to the 4.56's with 33's the first full tank of gas I gained 5 mpg with my heavy XJ. Recently bought another set of rims beadlocks and tires 35" (used that I re-grooved) very heavy lugs and sidewall. With those 35's I lost about 2.5 mpg than the 33's now go figure.
Your XJ must be exceptional when it comes to tires and gears knowing its not a 2wd DD with max mileage in mind, or is it?

3.73 and up requires a different carrier in a D30, what made you think that?
Ha, 1st time in 4 years, but no one has had the additional torque of the superchargers like I use.
I've have a bunch of combinations. I have 4 different XJs.
3.55 AW4- 28", 31", now 32" Supercharged with +100rwtq, great on street and offroad, good cruise freeway 65-70mph, use Lo range as needed
3.55 AW4- 28", now 25" 2WD supercharged with +70rwtq, smaller tires incr ratio ro about 4.10, perfect street racing and autocrossing, 'buzzes' a bit at speed 65-70mph
3.73 5speed- 31", now 28" 85hp Diesel, much better with smaller tires, both cruise and acceleration
4.56 AW4-33" MTRs, bolt on engine upgrades power to about 4000 rpm, too low ratio for street, buzzes at speed 65-70mph, OK offroad, use Lo when needed, needs more power, supercharging soon.
Everyone seems to prefer gearing a bit lower than stock. I think Jeep did a great job with the choice of 3.55 and 28" tires. I try to stay as close to that overall ratio or even a bit to the low side (less gear) for the auto AW4 and more street DD 90% street, 10% offroad. If I did more offroad, I would gear to the other side of stock overall ratio.
What the Jeeps really need is more power and torque. Adding the supercharger and more torque really makes the higher overall ratio work well. I prefer to slightly 'under gear' for my appliucations.
Remember that most tires are over rated for their size/diameter. Most are NOT true sizes. 35's are really 34.5-34.7" when new and can be 33" with use and wear. Same for 33's, 32's, 28's.

Ive got revolution gear and axle ring and pinion in 4.11 for an 8.25 and the master install, I also have a serious offroad 1 ton steering utk kit and I'm picking up a HP d30 in 4.10 hopefully this weekend. I might also try and cut out my rear fenders and weld sheet metal back in for larger wheel wells and flex room. I graduate high school tomorrow night and then I can finally start the install

Hmmm My 2000 has 4.56 32" 11.5 Goodyear MTR's AW4 c8.25 29spline and it does good on the street, real peppy and HWY speeds and RPMs are fine I went 4.56 so when I get my 33" Im ready.

Yours is a manual(manual and auto two different cookies) if so I'm sure you have 3.07 gears as stock, so 3.73 is good for 32" 4.10 is good for 33" I think 4.56 for 35"
For autos 3.73 for 31", 4.10 for 32", 4.56 for 33"
