Red Flag on XJ Grill?

Red Flag on XJ Grill?
Just wanted to get the opinion of some more experienced XJ owners. What do you guys think about the front grill of this '00 XJ?
Personally, I have never seen a grill this transparent so I feel like maybe this XJ has suffered through some front end damage or something in the past. Is it normal or alright for one to look like this?

I'll guess the POer wanted a little better cooling. I doubt it was a quantum leap in more cooling.
Or maybe the POer wanted to make a unique fashion statement. LOL
I live out in country with a stock grill and it gets filled with tons of bugs and other debris.
That grill would be a little worse but IMO not enough to worry about at least in the short term.
Its them dam large beetles and gravel road stones that take a toll on my radiator fins.
If it were my deal, i'd just drive it and call it a day while you look for another grill at the local boneyard.
In the meantime, keep a fin straightener and some radiator cleaning stuff on hand.

Thanks for your input man. That XJ is also a 2000 2DR and its in decent condition so I'd imagine you would be very familiar. Everything else from the pictures look clean! Have you ever regretted getting the 2000 vs the '97-'99 years?

Sounds like you haven't bought it yet?
Check the oil dip stick and filler cap for any signs of milky coolant contamination.
Pay careful attention to the hot idle oil pressure and i mean hot.
If its anywhere near 13 psi, i'd skip it if you're not willing to rebuild or replace the engine. Listen for engine knocks and ticks too.
Also check out the floor boards and rockers for rust.
Other than that all the usual used car test drive stuff including testing 4x4 in all modes.
If you buy any XJ, sooner or later be prepared to do some maintenance on it.
Have i regretted buying my 2k? Not one bit.
Just had a 200 mile drive with it today.

sometime hard to get it inside but worth it.

Definitely familiar with the some of the various problems I can expect to encounter but thank you for the information. Seems that it got sold before I got a chance to look at it in person
. I plan to check out a few other XJs this upcoming weekend so I will definitely use your advice.

MoparNjeep, Waynerd, you guys are right, you two got better eyes than mine!
I enhanced the photo a little.
The circled area clearly shows the small vertical ribs which appeared to be missing to me from the original picture.
I think the OPer took the picture at the right angle with the sun shining directly into the grill.

The one saving grace is its a 2k with or potentially with the cracked head issue.
Might want to concentrate on looking for late '90s XJs.
From the pic., that grill at first glance sure looked like it was modified to me.
Thanks to the eagle eyes here, its a stock grill.
There's always more where that one came from. These things are apparently in high demand as they don't make them anymore.
Don't hesitate too long if you find a decent one, but definitely check it out good before handing over the cash.
