Where are you located? You wanting a stocker or one already built? There's a classified section on the forum.

Look for a 1999 without the 0331 head. 0630 head is good. Not many 1999s have the 0331 head, but lots of 2000s and 2001s do, they have a cracking problem.

Id look for a 1997-99 with the 4.0 inline six. They came with a high pinion dana 30 front axle and either a dana 35 or chrysler 8.25 rear axle. I would look for one with the chrysler 8.25 because its much stronger if you plan to put bigger tires on it. The reasons to avoid the 2000-2001 is because they have a lowpinion dana 30 and a 0331 head that are known to crack. That being said i bought a 2000 because its the only one i could find with a nice body. I put the older style head on it and havent had any problems with it. As for the lowpinion dana 30, i plan to swap in a different axle anyway so it wasnt a big deal for me

Just drop her into 4h/4l and make a tight turn. If the front end hops you know it's engaged. Don't trust the light only. Mine works fine and the light doesn't come on either. So when im in doubt I just intentionally make a sharp turn.

Or you can go into some gravel and punch it

Nothing before 87, 87 or 88 for Renix era, check for tow package/Dana 44 rears. Otherwise 96 for pre-97, you get the first gen body style with all the best features from them and a number of 97+ features without the looks.

97+ you want a 99. No head issues, high pinion front axle, distributor system on the motor.

Don't bother with any motor but the 4.0 unless someone has swapped a good motor in.

To test the 4x4 slide the selector into it while just barely rolling forward, emphasis on barely. Turn the wheel and very slowly gas it, you'll feel it if 4wd is engaging. Just make sure you don't drive around in 4wd on pavement.

For transfer cases the NP231 has more aftermarket support. NP242 has barely any but you can drive on the road with it engaged similar to AWD.

Other than typical car stuff to check for check for rust at the rockers, drivers and passengers side floor panels and in the cargo area.
